Do you know what I don't think Bayern would spank us in the semis if we got there. It's like we get more up for games playing the big teams this year and certainly seem to defend better. It was valverdes fault mostly but maybe being 4 1 up against an ok team like Roma made some of those players too comfortable and they couldn't get going. Also I knew Roma would be tricky especially the way we have being playing and I said that on this forum. Maybe some of ye should keep yere thoughts of how easy it was going to be to yourselves and not jinx the team

Sounds more like players were unhappy with the style of play and from looks of it sulked and threw toys out the pram.

Well they have all contributed to one of worst Barca results ever and all come off it looking ridiculous.

it's basic sports physiology that 2 days of rest + a long trip have negative consequences for stamina and fight.
Whenever we lose like today (PSG, Juventus, Atletico ...) in the CL we played after 2 days of rest.
Roma has tall and strong players that clearly outmuscled us. They were aggressive and won most 1-on-1's. The referee let them do it.
As to EV's preparation, all I can say is "who cares about 38 La Liga games without a loss when you don't care to prepare the way we should for the CL knockout stage? What's the point of getting a hattrick from Messi against Alavés when it clearly inhibits his performance 3 days later?"
For Barça to defeat a team that is stronger physically, our players need to be well rested. They need to be quick and crisp.
Valverde needs an assistant with strong background in sports physiology, telling him to avoid running his players into the ground. I have said it before: Messi has only one significant weakness - he is not the GOAT when it comes to quick recovery after a tough match - and Alavés was a tough match.

Valverde is done and he knows it. This type of result is unpardonable for a club of Barca's stature.
When we thrashed Real 4 nil a couple years ago,Benitez knew he was done after the final whistle.

It really hurts that it didn't look like we could score a goal tonight. No offensive threat at all.

Our midfield was/is not dynamic enough. No-one can break through the lines except Messi and we lack pace. Given we ended up playing so deep in our own half you need players who can makes runs with pace and make counters. Dembele should have played and Valverde made a big mistake in not starting him. I think the Sevilla game probably informed his decision. We're too slow down the middle of the pitch also

I'm not blaming Messi at all either, but we cannot seem to get the best of him in these CL knockouts.

At Real Madrid there is an institutional drive to win the CL that we don't quite seem to have at the moment.

I posted this thread in the Barto thread but I want to post it here too to vent my frustration....

Barto needs to be ruthless in this situation. End of.

I'm so goddamn sick of seeing this club cater to every person it deals with. Managers get to stay until the end of the season regardless of how it goes, we let players choose which clubs they prefer to transfer to even if it means less money for us and we award these huge contracts to players within the club regardless of whether they earn it or not.

Sick of it.

People shouldn't be so fucking comfortable at this club.

Valverde today put out a team that was tactically clueless, played with zero motivation, fight or desire. He blew a 4-1 lead and got dominated for 94 minutes straight against Roma of all teams. This was the very definition of a team and manager who were all to comfortable in their situation.

Sometimes statements need to be made in this scenario and heads will have to roll to prove a point. Honestly, fuck this holier than thou attitude of pleasing people that our club has. Any other top club would sack a manager who embarrassed the badge like EV did today.

It's humiliation after humiliation in the CL, yet none of these players play like their positions are at stake, none of these managers seem scared of losing their job. No one seems bothered that Real MAdrid are dominating this competition.

yes. Agreed. But still. It will take years to get over this. How this could happen?
