It's a systemic issue. All our midfielders have proven before that they can be absolutely brilliant in very pressure-resistant sides, but that requires clearcut patterns and agreements. We very clearly have neither with Valverde. It's a simple thing, but we're just not building triangles as well as we used to, and the ones we build are dismantled far too easily.

Already regretting that i didn't watch PSG-Pool for the majority of the half...not gonna make that mistake in the 2nd. Watching Pique watching helplessly (how about you actually mark somebody and jump, motherfu**er!) as De Jong jumps up, is alone like a ghost, and is so unlucky to not score. And with the countless backpasses between the both CB and then to Rakitic, who of course sends it right back to them instead of picking out someone in front. Messi and Alba the only ones, i would say trying, but at this point i just feel like that EV's gameplan is such, that even if some of the others wanted to try to create something, they're probably too scared to try, cause EV would bench them for weeks right there and then.

Yes, it seem to be only zonal marking recently whereas we usually would employ a mix of zonal and man marking.

Seems like a greeeaaat idea when facing an aerial powerhouse like De Jong.

He's not exactly known for mixing things up midgame. He'll probably sub two players between minute 70 and 75, and then the last one with two minutes to spare. They'll be predictable subs, that changes nothing from a tactical point of view. Like Aleñá for Vidal, Malcom for Dembélé and Chumi for Piqué. And then we'll get a single point and Valverde will be satisfied because one point is enough for him when playing away from home in Europe.
