I hate comments like this regarding an all-time great.
I saw comments like this of people trying to play down Scholes and Giggs' career because 'younger' people only saw them in their late 30's and in Giggs' case early 40's, so how old are you?
It would be like Messi playing until he's 36/37 but having a massive decline 32/33 and a young person on the internet with not much memory of what he was like the years before, thinking they know all about his career and how he played and deeming him 'overrated' and not fit to tie Mbappes shoe laces, because Mbappe may be the best player in the world during this decline and standing out above Messi.
If your at an age to remember all or a large part of Ronaldo's career, but prefer Messi, that's fine, but why can't you do this without trying to belittle Messi's main rival?
'If' Messi is the GOAT (which many on this forum believe) C.Ronaldo as won 5 Ballon d'Or's during this era, acknowledge this and acknowledge these 5 Ballon d'Or's are not just down to penalties and poaching, these 5 Ballon d'Or's are down to him being an alltime great himself.
Sounds like I am older than you. If it makes you happy you can hate whatever you want. I don't care.
I have watched some United games too. But what I remember for sure are the comments of my friends who preferred to watch Premier League back then. They always said that he is one of the hungriest, most ambitious and athletic players ever but that in terms of ability he was not up there with the most skillfull players ever which I thought was quite obvious. They said that he makes way too many useless flashy dribblings with zero progression and than turns around to play the ball back or even that he overdoes it and loses control of the ball which looked rather foolish.
And that is something I often saw him doing when he played for Real Madrid until he scratched almost any kind of dribbling from his game as soon as there was more than one opponent in front of him. That made him even more boring to watch but it was the time when Real finally began to have some success. Whoever the guy was who had the guts to tell him to camp in the box the whole game and not fuck around in the build up play and creativity should get a statue in front of the Bernabeu. The sad part was that hard-working Benzema got the hate for not scoring goals.
To me Gerd Müller is also an alltime great. That doesn't mean that I would have sat in front of the TV and counted every minute until he finally scored a goal. Instead I would have looked out for Franz Beckenbauer or somebody else. I didn't even mention Messi! This has to be your compulsive behaviour.
You still don't know that Ballon d'Ors especially mean shit if you play for Real Madrid? It feels as if you romanticised the past and repressed all the bad memories and just kept the good ones.
On top I would say that CR is the player for children and people with little self-assurance. Children and these kinds of people often search for individuals who appear to be great and mighty regardless of whether it's true or not. He is quite tall, cares for his look and is a showpiece narcissist and self-exposer. I don't blame them for feeling more confident while following him but I would definitely prefer to have better, more ... Jean-Luc Picard like role models for the children and not such a douche.
Edit: ... and he is a fucking diver.
