I hate comments like this regarding an all-time great.

I saw comments like this of people trying to play down Scholes and Giggs' career because 'younger' people only saw them in their late 30's and in Giggs' case early 40's, so how old are you?

It would be like Messi playing until he's 36/37 but having a massive decline 32/33 and a young person on the internet with not much memory of what he was like the years before, thinking they know all about his career and how he played and deeming him 'overrated' and not fit to tie Mbappes shoe laces, because Mbappe may be the best player in the world during this decline and standing out above Messi.

If your at an age to remember all or a large part of Ronaldo's career, but prefer Messi, that's fine, but why can't you do this without trying to belittle Messi's main rival?

'If' Messi is the GOAT (which many on this forum believe) C.Ronaldo as won 5 Ballon d'Or's during this era, acknowledge this and acknowledge these 5 Ballon d'Or's are not just down to penalties and poaching, these 5 Ballon d'Or's are down to him being an alltime great himself.

Sounds like I am older than you. If it makes you happy you can hate whatever you want. I don't care.

I have watched some United games too. But what I remember for sure are the comments of my friends who preferred to watch Premier League back then. They always said that he is one of the hungriest, most ambitious and athletic players ever but that in terms of ability he was not up there with the most skillfull players ever which I thought was quite obvious. They said that he makes way too many useless flashy dribblings with zero progression and than turns around to play the ball back or even that he overdoes it and loses control of the ball which looked rather foolish.
And that is something I often saw him doing when he played for Real Madrid until he scratched almost any kind of dribbling from his game as soon as there was more than one opponent in front of him. That made him even more boring to watch but it was the time when Real finally began to have some success. Whoever the guy was who had the guts to tell him to camp in the box the whole game and not fuck around in the build up play and creativity should get a statue in front of the Bernabeu. The sad part was that hard-working Benzema got the hate for not scoring goals.

To me Gerd Müller is also an alltime great. That doesn't mean that I would have sat in front of the TV and counted every minute until he finally scored a goal. Instead I would have looked out for Franz Beckenbauer or somebody else. I didn't even mention Messi! This has to be your compulsive behaviour.

You still don't know that Ballon d'Ors especially mean shit if you play for Real Madrid? It feels as if you romanticised the past and repressed all the bad memories and just kept the good ones.

On top I would say that CR is the player for children and people with little self-assurance. Children and these kinds of people often search for individuals who appear to be great and mighty regardless of whether it's true or not. He is quite tall, cares for his look and is a showpiece narcissist and self-exposer. I don't blame them for feeling more confident while following him but I would definitely prefer to have better, more ... Jean-Luc Picard like role models for the children and not such a douche.

Edit: ... and he is a fucking diver.

Saying cr7 didn't look great in his style for most of his career, is just what nowinnofee said, wrong. It must be strong selective memory process or a fan which wasn't involved in cr7 matches for most of his career. Yes the last 3-4 years his style has lost a real lot, but before that he was sharp on the LW and looked like a warrior with killing intent to score. His runs were good with and without ball , his assisting was good, has made plenty fancy of those, his long range shooting was flashy and nice, he oozed danger everytime he had the ball or a ball was played to him. If his style was bad, you could say Messis style also looks bad because its always simple accelartion boosts and close ball control, always shooting with his left on same position just outside the box, always moving in the same pattern from the same position fro

useless stepover, tricks that go nowhere, dive, tap in,pk...that is bad.

even ronaldo's agent admited that he won ballon dor thanks to Madrid. He said the very same thing about Modric's ballon dor.
i only think 2008 and 2014 he was slightly better than messi, also messi was not fit during 2013-14 season, still the best player at world cup 2014 while ronaldo flied back home after group stage

Ronaldo should have won 3-4 B’Dors IMO according to individual skill+team success:

2008-MU won the CL and the PL and he was the best player,so it made a lot of sense for him to win, maybe this is his most deserved B’Dor

2013-He shouldn’t have won.Period.Won nothing with Real and Messi was better than him.

2014-He was the best player for the Decima winning team,so he had the narrative on his side.Plus Messi had his worst season in the last 12 years, despite winning the WC golden ball.

2016-He won the CL and the Euro.Yes,their road in the CL was extremely easy and Portugal was really lucky in Euro(while Ronaldo wasn’t that great),but he had this ultimate narrative,so I think it was a deserved award. In the meanwhile Messi had a relatively “off” year(we almost lost La Liga and we choked in the CL)

2017-This is debatable,I think that he scored a ton of goals in the CL(some important ones too) and Real also won La Liga.He may have started declining hard, but he won the 2 most important titles as one of the team’s best players.

2018-This time the whole “narrative” thing came back to bit his ass,so he shouldn’t cry that Modric won.

2019-

As for Messi, his 2009,2011,2012 and 2015 B’Dors were COMPLETELY deserved. He was also the best player in the world in 2019 dragging our corpse of a team to La Liga and almost to the CL final,so that was deserved too.You can only make a case for 2010,but still he was by far the best player in the world(people started calling him the GOAT even back in the day) and it was natural for him to win.Yes he “only” won La Liga and he wasn’t that good in the WC,but his level of play(eg 49 goals) was unheard of back in the day.

In the meanwhile, you can make a case for him in 2013,2017 and 2018.With a little luck he could have won at least one of the three.

ronaldo's tricks are all show off, very less effective. he relies mostly on his pace to beat defender. thats why he sucks and now without pace,he is useless when it come to dribble and run.
he is truly great with his heading ablility and his attacking awareness.
and pls dont tell me he is a good free kick taker

It was his own decision to stay in the middle and become a poacher because that was the only way he was going to keep up with Messi in terms of goalscoring. Unfortunately as you said , he lost so much in terms of being entertaining to watch, in order to do so.

I can confess to enjoying watching him play at Utd and the first few years at Real. I can even confess to defending him when my friends used to despise him because of his arrogance. It is only with age that I have learnt there is never any excuse for arrogance and it completely repulsed me now. As a result I find it hard to warm to him now.

But he did entertain me in the past. His hat trick vs Sweden was his best performance of all time for me personally. I don't watch him much now but he is still worth watching for his tantrums and shenanigans on the pitch. Like him or loathe him, the guy is 'showbiz'.

There were dozens of arguments against your post and this is the best rebuttal you can come up with? I think I preferred you as Copperpot or Hammerhead when you were a Liverpool fan for a while lel

What for saying Ronaldo is an alltime great? No there are not dozens of arguments against my post at all, Ronaldo is an alltime great and that's all there is to it, the record books will say this and people's memory banks will say this.

People trying to talk bollocks making out i said something i didn't, is what it is 'BOLLOCKS' and when people make a post saying the following on Ronaldo:-

"narcissist"
"self-exposer"
"driver"
"overdoes it and loses control of the ball"
"make a fool of himself"
"he makes way too many useless flashy dribblings with zero progression and than turns around to play the ball back"
"CR is the player for children and people with little self-assurance, these kinds of people often search for individuals who appear to be great and mighty regardless of whether it's true or not. He is quite tall, cares for his look and is a showpiece narcissist and self-exposer. I don't blame them for feeling more confident while following him"

And then talking about captain Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek

Reading all that shite, I'm going to call it what is, a train wreck of a post, defend this ridiculousness as much as you want, but this is what annoys me people who believe Messi is the better of the 2, they can't acknowledge Ronaldo's greatness, it's just Messi is GOAT and Ronaldo is shite and try to get their points across in a lunacy way.

I don't want to get involved in these debates, they've been done on the net and in person back and forth for years and opinion is still divided who people think is best, i can appreciate both are all time greats and it's been a joy to watch them over the years, so don't reply towards me like i said something i never, as said the only thing i replied to is lack of respect for an all-time great (Ronaldo) and people trying to dismiss his talents.

I had something lengthy typed up, but as a new member there were problems with my registration.

Will condense it to saying that all of those quotes are true, especially the stuff about celebrity worship and treating cunts like Ronaldo like he'es some sort of God, when actually all he is a bellend who happens to be very good at scoring goals and given his severe lack of intelligence, his insecurity and his lack of talent in other fields, would be a loser if not for football. I can forgive kids for wanking over him as they're too young to know any better, but the cringeworthy, embarrassing adults who devote their lives to the likes of him, Pogba and Beckham have fallen hook line and sinker for the era of celebrity worship, and as a result, yes, they and you DO lack self-assurance.

Just go back to moroncafe where Ole is the savuour, Man United are making progress (LOL there's zero progress) and where clowns like SAF, the Sporting posters and RedRonaldo twist everything in Ronaldo's favour.

And by the way, there's no 'split opinion' on who's better - the vat majority of credible voices in football think Messi is comfortably better, and those people are far more knowledgeable and objective than clueless little Ronaldo fanboys who laughably think he's the best player ever when he's not even in the top 20 on ability.
