That's where the Andy Cole comparison comes in. Cole's movement in the box was brilliant.

Coles movement was nowhere near Ronaldo was and if it was he was scoring a quarter of the goals at Man Utd and was a far poorer finisher.

There has been articles recently showing Cole never missed all those chances as people seemed to think.

Will try to find it.

Yes, I think Messi is a much better finisher (with his feet/main foot) but lacks Ronaldo's appetite for goals. Messi has passed up loads of penalties for Suarez or Neymar for example and free kicks. He passes a lot when he could shoot. He eases off when the game is won. Ronaldo would never do that, as he'd click more into gear as he pounces when defenders give up/switch off. Messi's movement is also brilliant but he doesn't always make the effort to move. Ronaldo will every single time. What Messi does do though is drop deep to make things happen and create for others.

My main point was there's been much better natural finishers than Ronaldo. It might be true that Ronaldo would score more goals but he still needs the service. Muller's goalscoring stats throughout his career were awesome and he wasn't playing in great teams and usually in mediocre ones.

Not about one easing off and other not. In games against top teams when need goals Ronaldo has been producing a lot.

Messi loves scoring goals and although gives away pens at times he goes the full 90 min trying to score virtually every game. Just look at Eibar last week.

Messi
Maradona
Cristiano

te amo barca

Blaugrana al vent
People are undermining Messi by saying that Ronaldo is shit. He is a phenomenal player. Of course Messi is better, but to belittle Ronaldo is a very stupid thing to do.

I think Ronaldo takes so many shots to score simply because he shoots from obscene angles and ranges other players wouldn't think of shooting from. I was watching the highlights vs. Alaves and he was taking shots from wide angles in the box. There was one particular chance he had where he cut in from the right onto his left foot and crashed a shot against the post when it seemed he had no space to shoot. I guess you can credit him for always somehow fashioning inches of space to let a shot fly but I can imagine it'd be extremely frustrating to watch.

When it comes to finishing CLEAR chances that these other strikers we're comparing him to probably only shoot from, he's up there with the best ever. Goals against Bayern last season (1st leg) and the Atletico hat-trick spring to mind or even some of the goals he's scored against us between 2012-16 - mostly one touch finishes with either foot.

He missed an open net tap-in just last week.

He misses a lot of sitters. I remember a portugal game in the Euros (supposedly his finest hour) and he had a total nightmare missing chance after chance that was created for him. Any other year it would have knocked them out but the changes meant 3rd place went through even without them winning a game.

Muller would be much more one chance one goal.

You are saying all this from highlights of Muller scoring. Dont have any idea of his goals to chances.

From speaking to plenty of people who seen him back in day he was a pure goal hanger at a time when a lot of those players were about. There are barely any now and defending is far better.

No he is a phenomenal player and one of best ever.

Not Messi/Maradona/Pele level but just below that he is right up there.

It's a very subjective opinion to state "no he's...", so here's mine.
Nowhere near among the best in history since he never had an aura of excitement, mostly due to lack of technique and vision where I find him quite average.
Ronaldo was always a great football project, starting from his training, game recoveries, sacrifices, determination and especially - marketing.
I don't even consider him to be among the best 10 players, since I admire Iniesta's abilities far more then his, not to forget players like Zindane, Xavi, original Ronaldo, Ronaldhino, or even E.Cantona, older stars like Pele, Cruyff, Di Stefano, Beckenbauer, G.Best, Maradona, etc. It's too crowded with raw talents to consider him even even close to Messi.

Messi is top 3 easily in my head. Not because I'm Barca fan, but because I haven't seen a better player who is so technical, consistent and efficient. I have not...and I can hardly imagine a better player. I just don't see space for that. Maybe if he was better defender or had better stamina to run like crazy for 90 minutes...
I haven't seen Maradona or Pele, but since these two are often put at the top, I will respect that and put Lio right beside them. Messi is epic talent. Ronaldo is just nowhere near that.

Ronaldo is better player than all those others for me due to how he can affect the game.

There have been plenty who have been better on the ball than him but barely any that impacts a game as much and that is what it comes down to.

I do t expect most Barca fans to rate him all that highly but woudl think by time he is finished in terms of general concensus in football he will be easily top ten and probably top five but not really in that elite argument of best ever.
