Cristiano Ronaldo - v1

I hope Ronaldo wins the Ballon d'Or for his form for the last couple weeks, mainly because he was shammed out of losing it last year so he should sham everyone else by winning it this year. Though his epic performances for Portugal will hopefully mean something.

You are being inconsistent again. Didn't you say earlier that this award is more than just individual brilliance, trophies and team achievements matter too? So why does a trophyless CR7 deserve the BD more than Messi and Ribery?

And exactly how was CR7 "shammed" out of losing it last year? Other than the La Liga trophy, what else made CR7 deserve the BD more than Messi?

For the record, I do believe CR7 deserves to win this year. Just wondering what triggered your 180 degree turn on this.

I said I hope he shams it, meaning winning the award even though he doesn't really deserve it on the basis that his club side didn't win trophies despite how well he's played. At the same time he single handedly got Portugal into the WC so he is a definite frontrunner for it. It's harder to pick a winner this year than most years since in other years the winner was more clear.

Well on top of winning La Liga he still played extremely well, his side broke the scoring record for the league as well and he was very much instrumental to that. Just because he didn't hit some mark like 80 goals doesn't mean he didn't deserve to win it. I'm basically being an ass in this situation and I just want him to win because I felt on a different year he deserved it and didn't get it. Something like setting the record straight.

So a consolation win for him? ;)

Haha, pretty much, though not a cheap consolation. It's not like he's been playing bad, especially this half of the year he's been absolutely monstrous. I couldn't pick a winner tbh. Even though I hate Bayern I'd like to think somebody from there should win it but when I think about it nobody there stood out enough for it to happen, and I just hate Ribery. He doesn't have the popularity to realistically win it. Granted if Messi wins it I feel it's a more deserving award than at least his 2010 one, though his form so far this season hasn't been spectacular. I still want Ronaldo to win over him because he deserves another Ballon d'Or.

...he single handedly got Portugal into the WC...

Moutinho and Almeida (and Sweden's suicidally high defensive line) beg to differ.

Two 3-pass counters, one 2-pass counter. Ronaldo did the movement and the finishing, but the setups were impeccable, starting from the defensive clearances to the open player at midfield.

What an achievement! Portugal, the 14th ranked team in the FIFA rankings, made it to the World Cup in the group of terror with Russia, Azerbaidschan, Northern Ireland, Israel and Luxembourg. And Ronaldo did it single-handedly as well, scoring in 2 out of 10 qualifying games (against the 2 bottom teams of the group no less). Unreal!

Yeah Moutinho was pretty monstrous in that 2nd leg admittedly, but if Ronaldo wasn't there Ibra could have KO'd their asses.

Regards to Ronaldo and the sarcastic previous post...

Still better than Messi. ;)

Ronaldo will never be better than Leo, only reason why everyone is talking about Ronaldo now is because he has no competition right now, he's doing great no doubt about that, but Leo always overshadowed him simply because he was better, wouldn't surprise me if he was fully fit right now he'd be overshadowing once again as we speak.

So enjoy it while you can.

Hahaha you guys take bait so easily it's ridiculous.

But I am serious that I hope Ronaldo shams a win for this award, though all in all it wouldn't be a total sham because he did deserve at least 1 from the last 4 years.

Messi doesn't tell journalists to fuck off, he tells Arbeloa in front of his children and wife curse words because he is so classy.

She is a smart woman and calmed things down. Messi is an asshole of course. Everyone knows that. Pffftttt
