Cristiano Ronaldo - v1

I know almost everyone here hates Cristiano Ronaldo, so it's no surprise people don't give him enough credit. There is some sort of twisted logic, almost a cult, which says that, if you like Messi, you absolutely have to despise the portuguese. I want no part of it.

I despise posts like that, so presumptious.

When was the last time one of our players had such one-on-one opportunities?

You can see 5 Schalke players on the screen at most, and they are all running towards their own goal... Yet when we play we see a 10 man wall of death ever single time...

Obviously, this is not Cristina's fault, it just pisses me off...

Well, this was a counter. The ball went fast from the defenders to midfield to Bale, CR and Benzema - hence they were running towards their own goal and didn't have time to re-group. Almost every time we win the ball we have to play a couple of passes between Pique and Masch, than Busi drops down and gets the pass, than he advances and passes it to Xavi or Iniesta, than Alves moves up and gets the pass, than we pass it back and forth to Busi, than we start to pass it to our wingers who pass it back to Xavi and Iniesta - you get the picture, we pretty much force our opposition back to their own goal.

You completely deflected his post. It's odd that you are all over ronaldo after a game where benzene was better than him. He's been suspended for 3 games. He's obviously not ballon for material sitting in the stands.

Benzema was not better than him. Two goals (one of them amazing) and two backheel assists shouldn't be so easily dismissed. And I also don't know why is it such a big deal to praise a player these days, even if that player plays in Madrid. Ronaldo is currently the lead goalscorer of the league and that's a fact, so it is clearly not just about the Schalke match.

The point is Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't usually get a fair treatment over here, and that's because most people can't get over the fact that he's Messi's archrival. As a result, he's not judged in an objective matter. I guess you don't agree.

No, the point is people go on about his great and BdO-worthy form while the only good game he has had recently was Schalke, even if we leave his 3 match ban out of the picture. As I said, he hadn't scored from open play in over a month and most of his performances were absolutely bland.
(Also, Schalke invited Real to steamroll them.)

Messi on the other hand has been scoring and assisting consistently but is constantly criticised for laziness etc etc

It is not about whether one likes Ronaldo or not. It is just a weak claim to say he is the best player in the world right now after a good game in a very unimpressive 2014 so far. His best performance in 2014 for sure, but how can you base on one performance to say whether one is the best or not?

Best midfielder around
Robben is by far the best player in the world. He scored three goals against Schalke today. Ronaldo only scored two.

No way, Schürrle is the best player in the world right now, all his hattrick goals came from open play whereas one of Robben's was a penalty. ;)

I believe we'll play Real in a couple of weeks time. We'll talk then.

Messi hasn't looked like the best player in the world to me, far away from his best level. Hopefully he gets there with time.

Ronaldo has looked good though, can't really hate him for his game except for his antics, he gives it his all, something I can't say about Leo nowadays.

About what? That CR has not been as great as people act in 2014? That Messi has scored more consistently than him? One game and people forget his poor run of form. It was the same last year, when one month and the hat trick vs Sweden made everybody believe his whole year was out of this world.

He was poor today but great players can turn up at any moment. We often see Messi looking been outmarked and then suddenly he pops up with a goal.
