Cristiano Ronaldo - v1

Sarcasm aside. He is overrated. I find players like Robben far more dangerous and better dribbler too.
Ronaldo is more dangerous in the box, his off the ball movement is the best in the world. Agree that Robben is better outside the box and as a dribbler as well.

I dont doubt most on here will agree with you but Ronaldo has played well and his movement off the ball is in a different league to any player in the world.

What?? What happened in the second half?

Only watched he first half. He was invisible until he scored the goal, which was really a nice goal, not an easy tap-in.

His off the ball movement was in a different league to any player in the world? If this is not exaggeration, I don't know what is.

It is a gross exaggeration.

His incredible movement gets him into goalscoring positions more than any other player. He'll do fuck all to help the team game or create things and actually influence the game but when it comes to being a deadly goalscorer he knows where to be and what to do. The mobile poacher, essentially.

I don't know how he does it, but he always stages the ugliest celebrations ever. Pretty damn good footballer though.

His movement is his biggest strength.

Ability on the ball he is probably not in the top 50 players in the world but his movement and desire to get into goal scoring positions sets him apart from anyone other than Messi.

In that first half Sevilla did not have a clue how to pick him up and he could have had more than one.

Twitter just reminded me that the Ballon D'or frenzy season is very near. Let the annoying and overblown fanboyism commence!

He is quite simply the best in getting into scoring positions. He is first of all a goalscorer, but saying he does f all in the build up is a bit harsh. He does go invisible quite often. But he does have a good amount assists and chances created each season.

Getting assists barely means anything regarding that. He's still one of the targets already in attacking space rather than the catalyst to create things. The only difference is that he's on the peripheral side of things putting in a cross or whatever rather than directly facing goal. Pretty much nothing to do with buildup. Assists don't change that. Even assist machines like Ozil back in RM did nothing in buildup, he was an attacker who provided service rather than received it. Both are awesome in the final third and in searching for attacking space, but their influence on the match itself is relatively muted (except Ozil on form really improved on that at Arsenal). Cesc is a lot like that too.

If you were to pit a prime Ronaldo's overall performance in a game vs. prime Messi, it becomes more clear. Messi is down way deep in midfield creating space, linking up with Alves and the midfielders, being even behind Xavi or Busquets at some points, dribbling forward and collapsing entire defenses to create dynamic situations that lead to goals. Ronaldo would do well, nothing whatsoever except try and nab a goal whenever possible. Look up Messi vs. Manchester United or RM or anyone back between 2010-2012 and you'll see him be the core of all our attacking movements. He's a midfielder, a playmaker, doing exactly what Maradona did (who is widely recognized as a midfielder) except with a better goalscoring record. See Ronaldo vs Bayern or Atletico or Barcelona, and there's really nothing whatsoever except him trying to shoot, him scoring, and maybe by chance a cross or two.

Well, your describtion of Messi prime performance is good. But Ronaldo prime performance is more than tapin, he does have does outrageous longshots once in a while, so you have to count that :) but yeah, Messi in prime his offers lot more all around, not so much as before though.

I'm not gonna degrade one of the best goalscorers in the past decade to only providing "just tap-ins" because as you said he does have wicked longshots on occasion and his aerial ability is top class. I'm saying that as a player he's limited to providing end product, whereas Messi is so much more. Don't get me wrong, goals are one of the most important aspects of a game. There's just a difference between being a phenomenal goalscorer and a historical footballer.
