Not too sure about that. The WC is the biggest tournament in the eyes of the masses and Argentina did reach the final. Messi won the Golden Ball as well. With the way the voting for Balon d'Or is structured, these factors have a huge influence and can tilt the whole thing in Messi's favour. Also, don't you remember that FIFA changed the deadline date for the voting after the Portugal vs Sweden play-off matches? That looked really suspicious to me. By the way, C. Ronaldo didn't win by a landslide last year like Messi usually does - he won by just 3.27 %. If Messi performs consistently and Cristiano does as well, I'm fairly sure that Messi will win it.

The "Who will win the Balon D'Or" discussion is boring. We all know that the top two will likely be Messi and Ronaldo. So let's discuss, who will be third player in the top 3?

I'd have said Suarez since he scored 31 goals and was PFA player of the year, but the biting incident is bound to hurt his chances. Or perhaps a German will be the third player?

I don't think Messi winning the Golden Ball helps him with the Ballon because like most people on here, I don't think he deserved it. There was actually an outrage at the fact that he won it. He didn't really have a great WC to win that award and most can agree.

Muller, Robben, Lahm, Kroos or even Di Maria have good odds of finishing 3rd.

Club level this voting year Ronaldo is no contest over Messi. World Cup would of helped, Final is huge and will get more votes but may deter those extra few from switching from Ronnie to Messi.

Talking about ballon dor, when do you think someone other than Messi/Ronaldo will win it? Eventually someone else will win, but not any time soon the way i see it.

Yes but I don't see how he is leaps and bounds ahead of any other player when it comes to off the ball movement. Mueller for one is better than Ronaldo in my opinion, in this regard.

I see a German getting 3rd. I think Messi may still win the Balon but I was annoyed with all the backlash he got with winning the Golden Ball at the WC because people including that douche Blatter and Maradona insinuated he didn't deserve it. That may deter people from voting for him even if he got to the final.

No sign of Ronaldo slowing down, I expect another 50 goal season. Ballon Dor will be close but I think Messi's World Cup will give him the edge. Classico is important too.
