Cristiano Ronaldo - v1

It just seems somewhat redundant to mention the fact that Bilbao were placed 6th, as if it's some great big feat to play a decent game against them.

But hey, whatever floats your boat...

(is he back now then?)

To be fair people on here praise Barca players no matter the standard of team in the league if they have had a good game.

People go far too far trying to find excuses to down play every good game Ronaldo has had.

There is an obsession with him at times.

Yip you are one of the obsessed.

As if it is a crime to suggest anything but hatred for Ronaldo. Good man.

Yep, no shame in hating on a disgusting disgrace of a player like Cristiano :)

Plus, I'm a proud hater of anything wearing a white jersey :barcaflag:

That's not even the point, though.

Should no game from Ronaldo against the likes of Bilbao be able to be praised independently as he is not having a good season in biggest game?

Is that the point?

The original comment just seemed to praise him and point out it was against one of La Ligas better sides. Something he needs to keep up for Madrid to have any chance of a trophy.

Sure, if current Bilbao, leaky as a sieve, without Iñaki Williams, placed at 6th is one of the better teams in La Liga.

As I've already said, it just seems redundant.

whoa, amazing game from Messi, and against 10th placed Malaga to boot!

People still cant look past his stats. They see all the goals, assists, he must be doing great, wtf are people talking about decline for? This is any neutral in a nutshell.

Redundant to say he had a good game against one of top six teams? When it has been a big discussion of him only slaughtering the worst teams this season.

I think you are reading too much into that being mentioned as it was there to show he is played better against one of stronger 5/6 teams in league something he has not really been doing. Saying he needs to keep it up not using it as some kind of 'he showed who is the best' type comment.

You're probably right.
My point is just that whether he does it against Bilbao, Sociedad or Malaga doesn't really matter a whole lot, and should hardly be mentioned as a feat.

Again, I'm not downplaying his game tonight (I didn't watch it), but that he does it against 6th placed Bilbao doesn't impress (or surprise) me much.

I guess we are reading it differently -

You seem to be taking the mentioning of Bilbao being sixth as some kind if bragging about Ronaldo answering those who say he doesnt do it against top teams this season.

While I read it as a him having a good game and against one of higher placed top teams something he has not really done this season and needs to continue.

Yea, well, Ronaldo has been poor especially in away games this season. He's been pretty great on Bernabeu except El Clasico, but that's also because most of the difficult games for Madrid so far were away: Atletico, Valencia, Celta, Bilbao, Villareal, Sevilla.

In away games, Ronaldo has been pretty shit. If we exclude Espanyol for obvious reason, he was mediocre or worse in each away game Real Madrid has played so far except the Celta game were he played well.

I think you're being too generous to Bilbao here. They leak goals like it's nobodies business away from from home, and they have a history of being hammered at Bernabéu.

And that's this discussion in a nutshell; how we perceive the strenght of the team Ronaldo helped trounce. You rate them higher than I do, and going by that premise, I understand why this would seem to be a step forward for Cronaldo.

Didn't we beat Bilbao 6-0 a couple of weeks back? Bilbao, like Sociedad, are one of the teams that are strong at home, but pretty docile away from their (basque) territories.
