Cristiano Ronaldo - v1

Devil May Cry
He knows he will need to win the CL to get the award...would be shocking if Suarez didn't win it if we do the double.

Even if you win the double and we win nothing Suarez won't win it. It'll be between Messi and Griezmann or something like that.

Griezmann has no chance.

If real fails to win CL the podium is gonna be Messi, Tristiano and Suarez.

It'll be between Messi and Ronaldo.

Ronaldo had a pretty bad 2015 all things considered; he won no trophies, he had plenty of big games pass him by, Real's record against Barca/Atleti/Valencia was awful. and the first half of this season was the worst he'd ever been in Real. Neymar on the other hand won a treble, was the CL top scorer after scoring in every round of the CL quarters onwards, and a had fantastic first half of this season. Yet Ronaldo had DOUBLE the number of votes Neymar had. Suarez is nowhere near the PR that any of those guys have, and his past will be used against him.

Looking at Ronaldo's goals in 2016 now it still seems Benz got the most decisive ones, but Ronaldo's form has definitely been up and has got his share of them too -- against Bilbao, Celta, Barca, Malaga, Sociedad, Valencia, Roma, Wolfsburg -- all of those are at least decent, so you can't say he's done nothing either.

If Real win the CL then he definitely deserve to be in the discussion.

Messi, Suarez and Ronaldo will be the podium. CL final win will make it a lock for Penaldo. Lose and it depends on copa and euros.

Pistolero for Ballon. :suarez:

Ronaldo is now a one-dimensional player when in his early days at Real and his prime UTD days, he was two-dimensional. His ability to beat two, three players off the dribble back then was impressive, as were the screamers he'd hit from like 25-30 out as a winger was for me why he deserved to considered the best in the world.

He is not that kind of player anymore and outside of his scoring record, he is rather ordinary. He's virtually a striker now yet he really isn't all that great at being a central striker. Unless it's in the air or his team can dominate possession for him, Cristiano struggles and especially with how well Atleti squeeze out space, they might be in for a rude awakening here.

He has the heart of a champion and while Real certainly rode their luck in CL and Wolfsburg's D was pretty laughable in that 2nd leg, he finds ways to score and keep Real going when they don't have anything looking good so you gotta respect him for that. Believe it or not, that's the only thing I think he's better than Messi is (at times) and that's putting the team on you're back when they are playing shit. Not saying Messi doesn't do that but at times, Messi lulls down when we aren't playing well when we need him to step up and unless Cristina is pissy about something, he will drag Real kicking and screaming at times to victories.

But again, overall, let someone break the Messi-Ronaldo Ballon dichotomy and give it to a worthy candidate in Suarez. He's earned it this year.

Random but today I found out he is opening up a hotel chain. With his name as the namesake of course.

He is a prima donna but damn he is about his money.

sure, the dribbling left a while back, and sure, I think this season and a bit of last probably showed quite a bit of decline in physical attributes, but isn't it impressive that he can still be so clinical in a world after those attributes have dulled?

No way is Ronaldo more clutch than Messi. He isnt a complete Zlatan in big games but there has been a huge amount of games where he has been invisible. Mainly due to Real being set up for him to get chance after chance. If a team is set up defensively they would just look to cross it to Ronaldo or pass it to him for a long shot being blocked time after time. Often it fails but sometimes it works. He can be invisible 90 minutes yet score a tap in and after a while it will be "the game where Ronaldo saved them".
If you make Benzema the main point of attack and allow him to shoot 10x a match while also taking all the penalties and freekicks he would probably have a similair stat.
Ronaldo's best attributed are his off the ball movement, athletic ability and consistency. This helped him use Real as the ultimate stage to shine on an individual level and reach his goals. Luckily fur us its also one of the reasons why they won only 1 league in 7 years.
It makes them very weak, and if it were not for fluke cl campaigns with favourable draws, last minute lucky goals and corrupt refs they would have no cl/liga nor be in the final this year after the whole Ronaldo era.

Plus playing every minute and the obession to score every minute of every game and bullying beaten teams who aren't even trying.

Lewandowski would score 60 a season in those circumstances. Suarez would.

Excluding penalties & free kicks, Benzema is way more effective goal scorer than Cristiano judging minute per goal despite the fact that Benz has been injured plenty of times.

Sir Alex Ferguson about Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi during an event at the Dublin Convention Centre on yesterday

"It’s interesting to me that we hear so much about two players these days: Ronaldo and Messi. Now don’t get me wrong, Messi is a fantastic player, it’s like he’s wearing slippers when he controls the ball. But here, for me, is the difference. Messi is a Barcelona player."

"But Ronaldo could play for Stockport County and score a hat-trick. He has everything. He can shoot with both feet, head the ball, he’s as brave as a lion, and here’s something else people overlook. During my time at Manchester United I was lucky enough to have a lot of people who put in countless extra hours to get better. Gary Neville turned himself from an average footballer into a wonderful one because of his work ethic, as did David Beckham. But Ronaldo used to completely exhaust himself, and still does. He just wanted to be the best in the world."

6 Ballons for Messi

but what if he wins 7??

Anyone got Ron's stats vs the big teams this season?

Also, does anyone have his total goals scored stats this season and who he's scored against?

I have an idiot at work tell me Ronaldo's had a better season than Messi because he's got more goals in La Liga nd in the CL.
