Cristiano Ronaldo - v1

e's far from overrated in the grand scheme of things. In fact, I'd say he's to some degree underrated as his consistency and longevity at the highest level is often overlooked. Apart from Messi, he's the only player I can think of in history that has been consistently in the top 3 players on the planet for an entire decade. Of course, right now his powers are drastically on the wane but name me how many past greats were at the level he is at now at 31/32. Ronaldinho was finished aged 28 (and actually a 22/23 year old Ronaldo at United had already surpassed him at that time). Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Shevchenko, Henry and a number of others were all inferior to what Ronaldo is now when they were his age. Football fans often have short memories and forget that CR7 at his absolute peak could do it all. Dribble, create, produce magic out of nothing, score, cross etc. Just like we remember Ronaldinho for 04-06 levels; R9 for 96-01 level ~ Probably between 07-12 was the best of C.Ronaldo and that version certainly isn't overrated. Even now out of his prime he's producing the goods that many great couldn't into their 30s.

6 Ballons for Messi

but what if he wins 7??

Here's a prime specimen of footballus ignoramus.
Cristiano in his "prime" was not fit to lace prime ronaldinho's shoes.

Wolfsburg star Bruno Henrique reflected on his meteoric rise from part-time receptionist to Bundesliga hitman, while he fondly recalled his dream encounter with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Brazilian played a big part in the Champions League quarter-final this year narrowly won by Real Madrid, who clawed their way back from 2-0 down thanks to a stunning Ronaldo hat-trick.

And Bruno revelled in sharing the pitch with such a star, although he could not help noticing Ronaldo had eyes for someone else - himself!

"Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the biggest players in the world. I never imagined that one day I would be marking him. It was exciting," he revealed to Goal.

"He is a great player, very skilled, strong and difficult to mark, but I did well, right?

"What I also saw differently is that he kept staring himself in the big screen the whole time!"

Greatest football-related quote of all time.

Do I remember wrong or did Cristiano fuck up a certain 2-0 opportunity by trying to do some fancy trick, right before Carrasco scored?

That wasn't the point of my post. Just saying that guys like Ronaldinho gets rated on what he did at his absolute peak even though he faded very early on yet C.Ronaldo is being bashed for his level at 31 even though he's infinitely better than the fomer at the same age. Also, 3 Ronaldinho careers = 1 C.Ronaldo career.

No trick. He choked a glorious chance after the score was level and also choked from a corner. I was actually shocked he missed them..... But then again, it's CR7 and he lacks a career defining moment :p
