You people can rant and debate all night if it makes you feel better, but the fact is STATISTICS are the most important thing that everyone looks at. Trophies and goals are what matter, thats why Messi is always critisized for not winning the world cup when other greats did it.
If you really think otherwise you are delusional, in 50 years from now nobody is going to look at every single match and analyze the play of players lol, are you joking? They will look at trophies and goals and thats it, they will see Ronaldo won an euro cup with a very underwhelming country, yet he lead them to glory in france against the home team, they will see his goalscoring record in uefa champions league, his trophies.. Meanwhile Messi also has alot of trophies with Barca, but in terms of goalscoring he lacks behind Ronaldo in Uefa CL aswell as La liga (based on goals per game), and he had a very good national team with Argengina yet won next to nothing.
Im pretty sure alot of people will consider Ronaldo to be the best player in the era 50 years from now, this Euro will cement it big for him, you can talk all you want but these are hard cold facts sadly.

It's not. Many great players didn't win a wc. Messi is not behind cr in anything. Time will actually put more weight on him being better. Gerd muller isn't considered bigger or better than Cruyff, even though he won the wc and the euro with Germany.

You are wrong. Statistics is and always will be just a mathematical perspective on things...it will never describe an art. And that what Messi truly is, an art. Like I said many times before, Ronaldo never made me feel anything when he touches the ball. There's nothing in what he does that is actually magical. Nothing. Messi on the other hand is all about that, plus he still manages to put on some crazy stats for people who don't watch or don't understand football.
Last player that made me feel close to that was fat Ronaldo. By miles better player then CR7, even though he doesn't have that fancy statistics.
Trophies are good, but sometimes you just need luck to get it. Had Messi had just a bit more luck, he would probably have 2 copas and a WC already. Probably couple of more CL trophies too...that would lead to even more ballon dors, etc.
Messi is great because he's astonishing football player. That comes first..then we can talk about stats and trophies, not vice versa. After all, this is football. The game where mighty Germany goes home and Portugal goes to final. Even if Portugal lifts that trophy, they are not better team then Germany.

Already tired of the media overrating this guy. I honestly feel his tournament is about equal to Giroud yet nobody labels him the star of the whole thing.
The comparison to Messi makes everyone act like Ronaldo is equally miles above any other player despite how he plays.
Imagine if he actually ends up winning it with Portugal tomorrow.

Reading these ridiculous articles about Ken in Telegraph and Guardian makes me think these "journalists" are either:
a) Stupid, blind imbeciles (or have the hots for CR)
b) paid by a certain JM to push a certain player

If Cristiano puts on a worthy performance and leads Portugal to the title then I wont really have an issue people calling him ballon d'or winner, eventhough he still not as good as Messi.. But if Portugal wins it without him being influential at all and people rave about how he led Portugal to glory that's where the issue lies imo..
Even if he still loses the final but plays exceptionally well he deserves all the praise.. remains to be seen if he can truly play a godlike game though, even in Madrid where he has talent around him I have yet to see a game where you tell yourself, "this guy is definitely worthy of being compared to Messi"

its a win-win situation for Cristiano, if he loses people will say how he carried portugal to a final, if he wins people will go crazy and say outrageous things like,"cristiano is the best european player of all time"
I picked that up from a football talk show I usually watch, some analyst brought that up

You've kind of eaten your own words here with the statistics thing, I partly agree that some people will look back at statistics only BUT these people won't pick and choose statistics, they will look at overall stats which currently stand at....
MESSI - 644 Games - 508 Goals
RONALDO - 803 Games - 548 Goals
There is also 2 and a half years age difference between them...
