David Alaba

Wonder if Piques knee is fucked and he is retiring at end of season as reason for push on Alaba.

Or maybe just his agent trying to run up salary from Real.

I think it could have more to do with us wanting to offload Umtiti and possibly sell Lenglet (if we get a good enough offer) but Koeman still want to have a left-footed CB.

If we'd continue to play with 3 CBs we could have something like Garcia/Oscar-Araujo/Pique-Alaba/Lenglet (or maybe Firpo).

Still don't think we'll actually sign Alaba though.

Who Alaba signs for will probably be finalized soon enough. According to German press the only reason nothing have been finalized with Real Madrid is because his agent who's buddies with Laporta promised him he would wait for the elections to conclude in case he won.

If he wants to sign soon then he'll probably end up in Madrid. As long as we're still alive in La Liga I don't believe there will be any big movements on the market. I also think Laporta will try to sell/loan some players to free up wages before we'll sign anyone besides Garcia who (I expect) won't get a big contract.

If we can go into next season with Araujo (staying fit hopefully), Pique, Mingueza, then if Garcia and Alaba are signed the CB/LB/RB options are actually pretty solid for the first time in god knows how long at this club. I'm all for taking a punt and signing him

Erm... You sure about that?

:benitez:

A bit of a misquote, but I stay by that. Lenglet at his best (assuming his form has been an accident lately - big assumption) is a tier below worldclass - just as Alaba at CB. No idea when he became the benchmark, I thought he was consistently Bayerns "weak" link last season (especially in their CL run).

Alaba is nice as a jack of all trades and I wouldnt oppose him too much, but I dont believe he would transform our defense.

Edit: Unless he plays LB. I would like that.

This guy can cover 5 position (CB,LB,DM,CM,LW) sign him asap!

Don't see him ever playing LW here, probably not CM as well. And as I've said previously being versatile is great but would he sign here to be a jack of all trades or would he want to play just one position? And what position that would be?

The only question is his injury record and salary.

Otherwise, he's a winner at the highest level and we do need some of those along with youth.

Strange that this is so polarising. Can someone explain why they're so against it without saying anything silly like he's shit, trash or finished when he isn't

He want 22m gross and I have some worries about him slacking off once he moves here.

I'm 50-50 on the signing.

Not for that salary though.

I suspect he is jealous of a teammate that evolved from RB to CM position, talking about Kimmich. The megacontract demand is nonsense and Bayern clearly showed him the exit door. He is a solid defender, but nothing close to Ballon d'Or level to deserve such salary, especially in these times.
