The player couldn't get into Spain's starting XI because he wasn't playing for Barcelona or Real Madrid and they had a Spanish player in his position.

It's an unsaid truth, if you're spanish and a starter for Barca or Real the spot in the NT is yours.

Well yea, mostly because if you happen to be a Spanish midfielder and a regular starter for Real or Barca, you usually tend to be a better player than the Spanish dude who starts for City or United. Taking nothing away from Silva's performance but United didn't exactly make it hard for him did they? Look at Iniesta do what Silva does against parked buses week in week out.

A player who can't even get in Spains starting 11 is easily the best player in the PL..........yes i went there.

This cliché doesn't do him justice. He has ALWAYS been an important part for Spain. 51 apps. for La Roja, 38 right from the beginning (including a Euro Cup final) at the age of only 25, hardly suggests he's been a bench warmer. To put it into perspective: Iniesta, 27 years old, made 57 appearances, 48 from the beginning. Not so much more than Silva, considering Iniesta is 2 years older.

Silva was just dropped last year at the World Cup due to bad form (like Torres). Del Bosque's actual plan was to start him throughout the tournament though. In the first game against Switzerland he did start. That team in the opening game was obviously del Bosque's first choice team for the World Cup. You don't start a World Cup game with a B team. Things didn't go the way as expected obviously (loss to Switzerland) and VdB had to make some changes.

Silva is Spain's Messi in Barcelona's system.

It should be like this. Even if it means sacrificing Xabi Alonso.

Uhm yes, it would be between Silva and Cesc and I believe Cesc is a better man for the job. The optimal team, in midfield/attack, would be:

Busquets
Iniesta Silva
Pedro Cesc Mata

David Silva has over 50 caps with Spain NT.

But being a Spanish midfielder is the worse thing imaginable if you want to play at international level...

Umm..he already played Silva as a false #9.

One time in a qualification match when already qualified against a weak opponent and Xabi Alonso injured ...

You can bet on it that del Bosque won't drop the double pivot. Which will mean less attacking power and more struggling in finding the back of the net (1-0, 1-0, 1-0 ...). Silva will most likely play on the right wing and be wasted for providing width, which should be Pedro's job actually.

You don't know very much about Spanish football, do you???

Lots and lots of Real Madrid/Barcelona starters did not make the cut for the national side.

What's so funny Myrmecophile?

Oh, or is that you implying that you want Xavi to play even then?

Btw raed I was gonna edit that but my internet went nuts. it's supposed to be:

Busquets
Thiago D.Silva
Iniesta Cesc Mata

You'd have to line that up similar to AC Milan's diamond midfield for it to be presented better. Which is pretty much what Barcelona plays, except its a better version.
