Davinson Sanchez

Buy him, if it even means loaning out back to ajax for a year or two.

Why would we loan him back? If we buy him he'll replace Mathieu as 4th CB at start of the season but when he'll adapt (I just hope that people won't be disappointed if Sanchez or another CB we'll bring won't adapt as quick as Umtiti did) he should be able to eventually overcome Masche as 3rd CB option and make him expendable next summer.

That said, with Pique and Umtiti pretty much set as our CB pair for at least next 2-3 seasons and Masche most likely staying for another season we'll have harder time to convince young CBs to join us this summer because we can't guarantee them as much playing time as they could get in some other big teams. But based on rumours it seems we have a pretty long shortlist of potential CB targets so we should still be able to find talented CB who will accept his initial role here.

I'm fine with this option. Keep Masche for one more year then Davinson can take his spot next year. I thought we were in on him last summer but he chose Ajax to get regular playing time? Either way I think he could be Piques replacement in a couple years.

I'd prefer Davinson being here and adapt to the team without too much pressure in his first season than coming in to replace Masche next season as we don't know how long he'll need to adapt.

Also, I don't see him accepting loan back to Ajax. He rejected that proposal last summer and now he's much more proven player in Europe with other big clubs looking at him as well.

So in other words this would be my plan:

17/18: Pique, Umtiti, Masche, Sanchez
18/19: Pique, Umtiti, Sanchez, Marlon

I wouldn't be too comfortable with us trying to replace both Masche and Mathieu this summer. Sanchez or another CB we'll buy will need time to adapt and while Marlon could be good enough to be 4th CB he doesn't have any top level experience. So I think it's best to loan him out for a season and then bring him back when Masche will leave.

Loan because he wants will not be a starter here and he won't come unless he is a starter, of that I am sure.

So you loan him and bring him back when pique starts to get up there in age.

A new Jaap Stam in the making.

I have been highly impressed by him whenever I have seen him in action. Ajax fans who watch him every single time have nothing but praise for him as well. Moreover he was named as “Player of the Year” at Ajax not that long ago.

Several top clubs are interested and we can't let such a talent get away. There have been too many of such missed opportunities in recent years.

Sell Mascherano (33 years old) who has been declining this season and free some much needed salary.

Even if Mascherano stays for another season we cannot miss this opportunity. Davinson will get plenty of playing time when Mathieu leaves this summer. Buying him and loaning him out would not make much sense IMO.

Imo if he comes he could easily become our 3rd CB. He'll need less time to adapt since he already plays our brand of football (Or at least what it should be) at Ajax and Mascherano has declined so badly I don't trust him at all anymore.

If we don't replace Mathieu and Mascherano we're going to be up a creek come next season. We can use a B team CB if we ever need a 4th, but a 3rd option is imperative to improving the squad.

So true. Especially considering we can field Sanchez - Umtiti - Pique. To my knowledge Sanchez usually plays RCB. Pique is the best in the center, and Umtiti plays on his left foot as LCB. Makes perfect sense. And would slide in just fine, with plenty of minutes since even the next season. We just started Mathieu in the most important game of the season, what are we talking about here?

Sometimes you just got to take the chance.

We didn't or hesitated when it came to Isco and Asensio.

Let's not keep losing opportunities like these to other teams all the time.

This is what I mean when I say they are too passive and only make a call when they think they are sure of a player's quality. Today, when you are sure about a player's quality either you are a genius, or you are sure because everyone else is as well.

We already wanted to buy him last summer.

Allegedly. We want to buy around 20 players every year according to the rumors. And we didn't really want to buy him if we proposed him to go to Barca B. Not exactly the best pitch is it, saying to a player that we want him so bad that we're sending him to play in the 3rd division of Spanish football.

He made a smart decision to go to Ajax. He was a freaking starter for Atletico Nacional's Libertadores winning team. Biggest CB talent from South America. He knew his worth even if we didn't right then.

Both de Boer brothers have apparently strongly recommended us to sign him and Dolberg.

We apparently even offered him a place in the first team squad after he rejected our B team offer but he decided to go to Ajax. Out of all the young CB's we have been linked with, Davinson is Robert's number one choice on his list and for good reasons, which gives me some hope that he won't make the mistake and missing out on him.
