Not all players are motivated only by money. Some value playing time, life style or other things more than money. You also can't reallly pay unproven players whatever they want. Clubs usually have wage scale for different type of players based on their importance/role in the team.

Also, not all players consider Barça as the greatest club in the world. They could be childhood fans of RM or other big teams and prefer to play for them or are willing to wait on their offer instead of coming to Barça. And even if they grew up as Barça fans they could think that moving to Barça at only 20 years of age is not the best career move they could make.

It's easy to think as a fan that all players wants to play for Barça and that we should get everyone we want (or even more impossible everyone that fans want, lol) but in reality is not that simple.

If Paco wasn't so desperate to leave the sinking ship that is/was Valencia, he'd have turned us down as well. And it's not like Paco is some scrub anyway. No preseason and playing with a new club, who play differently, will result in a season like this for most players.

Don't know really what to make of his game.
Looked solid and at few times too reckless at the back. Hope he stays another year at Ajax as I don't think he's that better than Marlon and we could at least see if the Brazilian makes a step forward.
