I don't understand these people who want us to buy the likes of Martinez, Llorente & Muniain. don't they have any heart? Athletic is a magic team on the rise, they must be left to grow!

If they were Catalan you'd be the first one to hope Rosell "brings them home."

nah but I wouldn't tho, not if it meant destroying a young magic team on the rise like Athletic.

the reason I thought it was alright to take players from Sevilla is that team had peaked and was on a downward slope. we didn't clip their nuts by signing their best players just as they were rising up to possibly threaten us. that's a chickenshit Bayern-Rangers-Celtic tactic that I hope we never adopt.

I agree with the sentiment of leaving Athletic alone. I really like what Bielsa is doing with that team and they reflect the same kind of philosophy we have. Hope to see them continue progressing and stay true to attacking, beautiful, true football and playing the game the way it is supposed to be played with respect, dignity and courage.

we've shown this season that we can score from crosses if the crosses themselves are good enough. having Drogba (for example) in the middle won't improve the quality of the cross and thus won't really effect defenders. yes he'd win more aerial duels but we rarely cross the ball to go like that anyway.

the best way for us to use a #9 is like Henry in that Valencia game.

and both Alexis and Villa can play the #9 in the same way Henry did in that Valencia game.

Alexis did it in the 1-3 in the Bernabeu where he was superb in creating space for Leo by stretching the field (and I'm sure Tito was a driving force behind the 3142). and as for buses; he was doing it well against Chelsea too, but then after the penalty miss we stopped really pushing it in to him and using the quick one-twos we had used in the first half to create space and chances. Villa did it in the Copa Final and helped create the space for Leo to find Pedro for his disallowed goal.

but that shouldn't be our primary formation or tactic, so worries about reducing width are erroneous as we'd likely use such a set-up in a 4231 or 3142, so width would always be retained as we'd be removing a player from somewhere else to insert a #9.

and yeah, there's no need to buy a specialist for that position given Alexis and Villa and DONGOU can play there.

I couldn't agree more with what you are saying. As I have been continually saying for a while now, we do not need another striker because we have Villa and he should be the classic #9. I think that he needs to be in the center and Messi be moved back out as a RW. If we do that, I guarantee that Villa would have a 25-30 goal season while Messi wouldn't maybe have 71 goals, but would still easily be able to be in the 55-60 range. Besides our classic 4-3-3 with Iniesta and Xavi playing as attacking midfielders in front of Busquets, this is the formation I want barca to use against parked buses:

Make your football formation with this11.com

Its a 4-2-3-1 but in reality, its more like a 2-4-3-1 and we would dominate teams offensively, especially against parked buses. Jordi Alba (we need to sign this guy asap before Euro comes when he has a great tournament and his price goes up) and Dani Alves give us width that would stretch back lines in order to give more space for Messi, Iniesta and Fabregas to run into. With Villa as the #9 target man, there would be too many threats for teams to man mark. That would force teams to defend zones and thanks to width from our fullbacks, it would neutralize the zone defense because there would be too much space for players to cover.

I use this formation in FIFA 12 and it works like a charm lol. Thoughts?

I would agree with this as well! don't think I ever called for us to sign Hummels and I would never want us to. Dortmund are amazing and deserve another crack at the CL. hopefully they'll be better prepared this time coz they didn't do themselves justice in 2011.

also I think it could be possible next season to have this CL group: Barcelona, Ajax, Juventus, Dortmund <-- BEST. GROUP. EVER.

I was just generally speaking with regards to numerous posts in here. And im really ambivalent there as well, as i see Hummels as the perfect defender for Barca. But hes very instrumental for Dortmudn and id like to keep him there tbh ;)

And ye, tactically very intersting group!

So, you agree that Barca needs a CB, who's young and tall to replace Puyol, yet you dont want to get Hummels because Dortmund will miss him. That's Supply and Demand; thats what football is about. You will always get clubs bringing on talent and having to sell them to bigger clubs. Would you say no to him if he makes the difference in 2012/2013 and we get back the league title and the Big Cup?

I want Barca to sign Hummels if we can't Thiago Silva and because Javi Martinez will be just too expensive. I'm a Cule, I'm worried about our club and our club only.

I never see any other clubs or their supporters feeling bad for us, I normally see them praying on our downfall.

Llorente and Martinez have both been quoted as saying if they had to leave Bilbao, their preferred destination would be Barcelona.

I still think Javi Martinez would be a great fit here in the CB role he has shined in under Bielsa here at Barcelona. I just think his buy-out would be too expensive.

There is no other answer to the question of the defender than Branislav Ivanovic. He's the perfect replacement for Puyol who is getting old and has fitness problems, since he's a top quality fast, physically strong defender who can play equally well in right back or as center back and he will come cheaper than Thiago Silva who Barca are interested in signing and plays only as center back. With Puyol far past his best and Dani Alves' sub-par performances and rumored Man City interest he would be ideal to fill the gap in center/right back. He's 28 which is a great age for a defender and he's Thuram level right now, let's not wait for him to turn 34 before we sign him. Plus, Madrid also want him, which is another good reason.

IF we buy someone, i hope it dont end up like last year where all the good players gets signed early on in the transferwindow by other clubs, and were stuck in transfertalks

annoying rumours...

...briefly, why don`t we buy javi martinez or amorobieta, they both are amazing at defensive line..in spite of their ages, they really seem experienced and tactically cultivated...huuh, by the way, i`m writing this in the case of not being able to sign any of thiago silva, hummels or verthongen...but still, martinez and amorobieta really seem to fit in
the team more readily and quickly...

Futbolista, where did Javi Martinez and Fernando Llorente say that? Got a link?

Barca_love, both those guys have very high buyouts (in excess of 30 million. for Javi Martinez, it's 40 million) and neither have expressed interest in leaving where they are.
