Our midfield setup was too slow and to put it put against pressing Sociedad was a big mistake. We needed a fast player there and no wonder we looked better with Denis.

Play him from now on.

Seriously, he should have been given a consistent run of games with Iniesta out. He gets the ball and drives forward, something that seems to be too complicated for the other midfielders. He's not slow as a turtle either.

I was sceptical about him when he joined, but he is slowly showing that he can actually make it here. It may take some time, though.

He was above average when he came in. Nothing special but better than most players.

But you fawn over Gomes when he makes a side pass because he's "intelligent".

Denis was a massive upgrade to our midfield when he came on and there's no good reason why Gomes should be starting ahead of him.

He played better than Gomes the time he was on the pitch, true. But Gomes also had better games than Denis Suarez, so this match proves nothing in the bigger picture. It only proves that Denis and Gomes lack consistency, which is normal considering it's their first season at Barcelona.

I don't "fawn" over anything.

Half the games he started he has been completely invisible, and was one of the worst on the pitch against Granada of all opponents. Why is he a sure starter over Gomes? He has some qualities the others lack, but what good is that with so much inconsistency.

Denis hasn't had a run of games at Barca like Gomes had though. He's also played half of the minutes Gomes and you can't really say that Gomes has been far out better than Denis even though he's played much more.

Gomes - 1017 minutes
Denis - 572 minutes

Rakitic/Busi/Gomes is too slow, not just in terms of pace but in terms of ball movement as well.

I'd like to see Denis get a run of games and see how it turns out.

Run of games? I think this is the first game that Gomes played back to back.

But yea, I agree that we need to give time to Denis as well. I wouldn't mind if we played both Denis and Gomes, considering Rakitic is no longer unmovable considering his poor form. Busquets isn't either, also in very poor form.

But tactics need to get better anyway. It's not a coincidence that our midfield is poor no matter who we play. It's the tactics that are wrong.

People like to blame players a lot here, even in games that are won or lost by the whole team. I've gotten used to it.

Where did you get these stats?

According to TM Gomes has played 814 minutes in all competitions and Denis 701 minutes. And in La Liga Denis actually played more (573 vs 457).

Whoscored.

I just checked again and it was my mistake because they took into account Gomes's minutes in the Euro and I didn't see it being added on, but the Denis one still says 572.

Denis was poor against a 2B side. I don't think he has level to be a Barça player, but hopefully I'm wrong. To me all he can be is a super sub, and that's it.
