I agree..apart from the fact that I can't stand the man, he scored less then Torres this year, playing more minutes. So people should think about that before saying that we need him because he scores more then Pedro or Alexis. Not to mention the fact that I don't see him as a good influence over the other players.
Torres has played 700+ more mins than Drogba. Torres might 've scored more goals (7 out of the 11 came against lesser sides - Genk, Leicester, QPR in big wins, 1 inconsequential against Barca), but the Ivorian has proved more clutch over the season - opener at st. james' park, only winner against Stoke, dismantled Valencia, opener against Napoli (h) and Spurs (FA cup semis), winner against barca(CL semis). Torres had plenty of time to prove himself the majority of the season but failed (even during Drogs ACN absence), whilst Drogba even when underperforming came crucial to their campaign.
Those watching him on a regular season 'll know he's cut down on his theatrics. Now he only reserves them for the big games (against napoli and barca at the Bridge for instance
) I've read Drogba's gamesmanship against Barca (which received such large scale criticism) was a pre-meditated time wasting strategy by Di Matteo. And it makes sense as Drogba for all his theatrics in the past hasn't gone to such incessant lengths of abhorrence he did against us.
And i've never heard about him being a disruptive influence over other players. He was seemingly upset about the ladyboy's constant starts over him, but being a Chelsea legend, and seeing the ineptness of your replacement failing over and over again from the overview of the bench must 've been frustrating (i'd be upset too).
Drogba may be a jackass on the pitch, but off the pitch he is a wonderful person:
Africa's Greatest Star
FC Barcelona + Drogba + UNICEF = back-to-back CLs
book it.
I'm on Team Drogba, like you Irv. But don't bother with any links. Some people 've already made up their minds on him, sadly.
I can only hope if we dont get him, our arch-rivals don't either. He's not just any targetman, he's (at 34) still one of the best targetman in business. And he's got the technical skills to boot. His signing will be worth just to see him troll the hell out of Ramos and Pepe.
