May I ask the regular La Liga watchers here their opinions of him? Not interested in his character but his playing ability.

Would he make Chelsea (who are reportedly after him) a much better team?

From the videos I've seen he seems to score a lot on counter attacks - is he more than just a counter attacking striker?

He is really, really, really overrated.
Ignore the stats and actually watch him. The guy is not THAT good. Not even Atletico's best striker in the last couple of years. They always had better options. A clear downgrade. Simeone is the only reason they're 3rd this year.

Obviously Falcao, Agüero and Torres in his prime were better, maybe Forlán as well. He'd definitely make Chelski a better team considering their other striking options.

Not Torres but Falcao, Aguero and Forlan were definitely more lethal. Although, costa does his defending bit better

Costa is a great striker, idk what you guys are saying. Drives at defenses with his runs, has power and pace, and works very hard as a player. He's an asshole but a very great quality forward.

With the way they play any above average striker could have gotten as many goals, I can't recall any of the 10ish games I watched them this season where he was the sole reason they won.
But considering Chelsea just needs someone to bang in the chances they create he will do well.

Cerezo just came out and said that Costa won't be leaving Atletico this summer. Add 20-30m to his price right there.

Costa leaving is not their main concern. They can always buy another striker like Benteke for example and turn him into a beast. Courtois leaving next summer is the problem.

Eto'os regressing badly.

Atletico should be looking for a ready made striker for the now and for the future.

They should do whatever they can to keep D.Costa, and then build on their current team.
