Diego Costa

It's a very difficult decision. We may debate endlessly but in the end the player has to decide for which country will he love playing more and we should be fine with that decision. But whatever country he chooses we will sure get the fanboys of the other berating him endlessly

traitor, he will rightfully get booed in Brasil, in my opinion you can only have 4 options at best:
1. country you were born in.
2. Country you moved to at a very young age and grew up in
3. Mothers country
4. Fathers country

Moving away from Brasil at 18 makes you nothing else but Brasilian.
Remember how in the past every palyer wanted to player for Brasil and only played for other countries if he had no shot at getting in.
Diego Costa has a better chance at playing for Brasil at 9 than for Spain I think, strange decision.

I'm not sure he'll get booed, he's not really known here. CBF is also expected to appeal that, I'd leave it alone, he wants spain, let him play for spain.

They will figure out he is Brazilian when he is playing there with Spain right? must get some media-attention.
Imagine him scoring the winner against Brasil in the final.

Dear god. This has become like club football.

A complete mockery of international football.

This isnt something new though, I remember Brasilians playing for other countries before. E.G. Mehmet Aurelio for Turkey (even changed his name!), Luis Oliveira for Belgium or even Senna for Spain.
However its a matter of time before Qatar type nations start pulling in young Brasilians so that they can have a nation for a wc.

Overreaction. No one is being sold, and why is it a mockery? Diego surely has his reasons, and he is eligible to play for Spain, according to the rules by Fifa.

You forgot Deco, Pepe, Eduardo(croatia), Amauri, Camoranesi, among others.

You're right, it's a bit of an overreaction I suppose.

I remember we've already had this discussion a few pages back. I don't think I've got much to add.

I know he's eligible according to the rules. Perhaps I don't like the rules?

Maybe you don't. But the world is different today. And I can say, being brazilian, that the love/pride for the country is not estimulated a lot here. And he chose the nt that is making him feel valued.
I also don't think this happen that often(not yet anyway). And honestly, the only loss for the Brazil nt to date, to me, was Deco. I rather Diego chooses where he wants to play, than rfef and cbf go on about it, for political reasons. I'm sure Scolari wouldn't have called Diego, if not for Spain showing interest. He didn't like Costa in the games he played.

That's a good & open minded take, Flavia...Let's not forget, this is more than a footballing decision - he's representing Spain, as a citizen, in Brasil...If he feels valued elsewhere or simply enjoys it more, it's a decision that should be respected, free will to choose your allegiances
