Well, for a 4-2-3-1, VDB can only play with De Jong in a midfield 2. He is not good enough offensively to occupy a spot in the 3 line, when you have central players like Griezmann and Messi.

VDB is AM really, and when used deeper he played in FDJ position. I prefer Pjanic over him tbh.
If he isn't here to be 10, we might be wasting resources tbh.

He may be AM for some teams, but here he will not be an AM, except maybe in 3 men midfields. Plus, we don't know for sure we will play 4-2-3-1. It's just a speculation at this point.

Didnt you watch Ajax games last season? Tadić and Him were always changing positions, as donny occupied ST position or box very very often. That made them very unpredictible and succesfull.
