Sport saying Barça is willing to pay his wages. Gijon would have to pay a fine if he didn't play a certain amount of minutes. Because they think it's best if he plays, so that some club would be interested to buy him... Kind of a wishful thinking, if true.

Gijon would probably take that fine without a moment's hesitation when they actually see him play.

Yeah, let him develop as RW and then bring him back as Messi replacement when he leaves for Newell's Old Boys in two years. Seems like a good plan to me. :bartomeu:

I don't know how they're playing this season, but he could do ok as a rw for Gijon.

Doubt it. His attacking ability isn't on a La Liga level. They recently beat Athletic Bilbao in La Liga. Would they have won that game if Douglas was there? Because I don't think so.

Do you think that if they have Douglas they will never win a La Liga game while he's playing?

Douglas in on Gijon level. And other liga teams, especially if he plays a rw/rm, not having to defend much.

He might work as a RW sub or something for them. When the defenders tire. He's very fast.

But give him anything to defend and he'll be lost all day.

I wouldn't say that. The wings are typically where you put your most useless player in non-professional environments. It just seems unlikely that Gijon will lower themselves even further to do such a thing.

He'd be a total passenger. He hasn't shown a flair for attacking or passing. Even for a team like Gijon I'd imagine he wouldn't be able to force actual La Liga attackers out of their roles on the team.

Is this why they always put me at fullback as a kid? Because I was the most useless player?

They put the most useless kid on the wings, lmao. That's where he can't truly hurt you by messing up most the time.

The US academy system is almost entirely money based so we had a lot of those who just got pushed out there while the rest of us did the work

My coach in school only ever played 4-4-2 and he did it with four centerbacks. I played wide-centerback essentially. We were told to stay back most of the game, alongside the centerbacks.

I think he put me in defense because I was tall for my age. I only played for the school team for two years before getting bored with the coach's tactics.

But I agree though, the US academy system is completely fucked up. If you can't afford to pay, then you can't play. And unless that changes, the US isn't taking advantage of their talent pool.

He's not Barça level, but he surely can play for Gijon. He did ok for são paulo in an attacking role. His passing and crossing are actually ok.
