Ernesto Valverde - V1

Ah, it's the players own fault that all of them together (including Messi) are underperforming in the attack. Nothing to do with tactics. Gotcha.
Valencia was defending with entire team, they ware very disciplined and any team would struggle against that kind of defense. Regarding goalkeeper error: teams are scoring because someone from opposition makes mistake: either defender or goalkeeper. If everyone played without any errors we would rarely see someone score.

Valverde has nothing to do with the fact that Deulofeu sucks, Suarez is a finished player, Rakitic can only pass backwards and Iniesta is 33 years old. Messi underperforms because he's surrounded by mediocre players. The only thing that Valverde can do is to develop tactics to help Barca to improve defence and control matches like in the first half yesterday. I agree that the attack sometimes is too static but with the mediocre players he has at his disposal you can't expect too much else.

I am starting to see things differently as well after these two draws against Juve and Valencia where we probably deserved more.

Valverde has done a good job considering the circumstances. I would almost say very good had it not been for individual brilliance saving us at the back.

If we had normal Suarez and could count on Dembele things would have been more attractive up-front too.

Cherry on top would have been if you mentioned me specifically and told me I was right after all.
But hey...you can't win 'em all.

our offensive process is weak, right now our attack is messi and messi alone, i dont like him playing too deep, he needs to be more close of the area, and let the mids do the work, ernesto what are you doing

To be fair to Valverde what else can he do? we failed to give him good enough Midfield options this summer and our Neymar replacement, Dembele got injured and has been on the sidelines for the past couple of months.

add to the fact that Suarez is in the worst form of his life and a Midfield which is clearly aging which brings up the first point I made on we failed to get a real CM option this summer bar Paulinho as Liverpool did not want to sell Coutinho in August.

We are also stuck with players that may not fit what Valverde needs.

No midfield options but he still would not call up Alena. The attack has been stagnant but he still wouldn't call up Arnaiz! There's Denis who has done well everytime he was given chance but under utilized too!

He does not show guts to bench the underperforming superstars - Pique, Rakitic & Suarez which I think is his biggest flaw. However, I don't buy the logic of naysayers who keep saying that he's tactically naive though

Valverde is definitely not tactically naive.

While it's true we are struggling in terms of chance creation, if there's one thing I'm confident about is that we have a good tactically sound foundation. A year ago under Lucho I never thought we looked tactically sound at all, if anything we looked so open that we can score goals thanks to MSN but in the middle of the field and defense we were a lot more exposed to a point where that any half decent chance would kill us.

Under Valverde I don't get this feeling at all. we looked more compact and over all more safe in terms of control.

Our attack right now really is, being as accurate as possible, Messi and Messi alone. And a Messi that's starting all the way in midfield having to carry the ball upfield to create and score. Incredible that i felt our greatest chance of scoring was for him to go 50 yards and do something insane, because creativity wise everyone else is useless. Suarez, Rakitic, Deulofeu, Semedo, none of those guys are doing anything extraordinary on the attacking end of things.

We have no firepower.

Valverde was criticized mostly for his bad lineups and subs and not for playing bad football, at least from me.

We always had a shortage of quality but he kept that making it worse with his decisions.

He is getting better at both though.

How do you say we deserved more? Of course we had a good goal denied against Valencia, but we didn't create many clear cut chances, if any in either match. Just passing the ball around sideways in the final third keeping possession doesn't make us deserving of a victory.
