He's also unbeaten in the league and on the path of securing domestic double.
You may call it a good or solid performance all you like, but for me, for a player who cost us 160m, he showed nothing. Don't imply anything bad about him as a player, but that wasn't a good game.

Don't see how fullbacks changed the match. Sure, it helped but it wasn't a reason Barca won.
Also issue with Digne staying back was between Umtiti and him, not on Pique who plays on other side so him telling Digne was strange. It was on both Umtiti and Digne and their communication. Oddly, both French to so they shouldnt have such a problem.

It wasnt simply a fullback issue, his formation and tactics as a whole was simply counterproductive. He used a 4231, but with Paulinho rushing up to make a variant, 4141 and Messi is used to playing as a false 9 and dropped too deep resulting in 4-5 men upfront and Messi at the back. In this case, Messi playing heavy possession doesnt help, the purpose of 4231 is to give many attacking and passing options but Messi in this case tried to do everything. If EV is aware Messi is accustomed to a false 9, then he shud switch it to 433. Something like the game against Espanyol at home, look how quickly we scored as compared to this game and even conceded.
Too much vulnerability at the back with a 4231 and he even expect an ultra offensive fullback style; it will only leave Umtiti, Rakitic and Pique stranded. Not to mention he played Coutinho in the right flank.
Even Man Utd in 2007/08 played 4231 but played quick direct passing and fullbacks usually go for long passes because they are alone at the back but in our case Messi dropped ultra deep and expect link up from the back when there are literally 4-5 men in front of him.

Not really, that's one issue and they played a little bit better but tactics on a whole was not very effective. Messi dropped too deep in this case and score a late winner. That's it.

Dunno what EV is doing now, been making some Lucho-esque decisions lately. Overplaying Iniesta by a lot, playing Coutinho on the RW and then benching him today. We need the Don fresh for CL and Coutinho needs to be acclimatized in his natural position, not 4 different positions 2 of which he isn't comfortable playing.

I think he's content with a Copa + Liga double as we are on the cusp of winning those two competitions and is going all out to make sure he secures them.
