Ernesto Valverde - V1

Behrox

Vice President of FC Barcelona
Disagree with this a bit. Having watched this team for nearly 20 years, I can assure you that the tactics of Capello and at times Mourinho, were not well received by the fans. Particularly Capello who literally had no issues with the team sitting in their own half against weaker opposition at home. Real Madrid have always historically favored an open attacking style. Certainly though, the style is not as "signature" as Barca's style is.

When was the last time fans turned on your manager for having 49% possession?

I would rather Barca miss out on winning the Champions League next season playing beautiful, attack-minded football than us winning it playing boring and defensive football ala Mourinho 2.0.

You are deluded. It's too late for you.

Why is he deluded? How can someone prefer a trophy and ugly football? Explain what do you get from it. Do you get to take a picture with the trophy? Do you get millions in bonuses for winning it? Besides of sleeping in front of the TV watching, what else do you get? :banghead:

It's not only the style of football. It's also the fact that we are in a transition and Valverde refuses to develop youth. Arnaiz and Alena should definitely be getting first team minutes. Also need Dembele integrated into the squad. He needs to give Mina minutes ditto Semedo.

442 was adopted because of Dembele injury. After that we didn't lose and Valverde got carried away. Also he seems to lack the mentality of a big club manager. Very timid.

I don't disagree with anything you're saying. I was responding to a poster who asserted that Real Madrid do not care about play style. If anything I would say Barca cares more about play style, which isn't a bad thing.

Semedo got a lot of minutes, not every minutes as most fans hope but he surely get more than enough chances to show himself. He isn't young player either and he is competing with a player from his age category so it isn't an anti-youth thing.
Arnaiz was getting minutes until he was badly injured just after getting 2nd game against Celta, this one wasn't on EV by any mean. The injury might has cost the kid his chance with Barca but shit happens.
Dembele was getting minutes early on but as you said EV has had his game plane and didn't like to change it for him after he came back late in the season, he tried to integrate him without risking the 442 which has cost Dembele game time specially with all the rust, I am betting on him being a starter next season

OK, what are you betting on? I will bet against it. No way Dembele is going to be a starter when Griezmann is coming. I think Dembele's career will end the moment we officially announce Griezmann's signing.

Also, besides his injuries, EV only started playing Semedo when it was safe for him to do so. Meaning, mathematically hard to lose the league. Arnaiz wasn't even needed as much as Alena so not sure why even mentioning him and his injury.

I can't believe some here actually have an excuse for EV's fucked up rotation policy. Wha's next? will you defend his Mourinho's football style? Or one of the most embarrassing defeats in our UCL history?

Can you tell some examples of beautiful football?
Please don't say: the way how we played in Pep's era, because that is impossible due to players whom we'll have never again and due to teams not being able to figure out TikiTaka back then.
Remember, Spain and Barca stopped playing beautiful and successful in the same moment.

So:
1. either both Spain and Barca "stopped" caring and running
2. or the opponents adapted and we are screwed since then

So, about beautiful football, if you guys have some OTHER ideas, besides Pep's style, that's fine.
If you guys are dreaming about Pep's copy when you say beautiful football, that is never going to happen again.

Our team has a burden on shoulders due to Pep's era and we are trying to replicate that style which is not working anymore.
And the only way to play beautiful is to TRY something new.
And we can't try something new as long as we don't move on from Pep's era.

And again, we are not moving from Pep's era.
The board is buying copies of those players and fans want to play exactly the same tactics as then.

So, we are screwed on so many levels.

Agree with most of what you said but how have we bought copies of those players from Peps Era?

Eto, Henry, Puyol, Villa, Xavi, Pedro, Abidal... even subs Keita, Adriano etc.

I see ZERO similarities between the players we had then and the players the board have bought since....

balance is key. scrapping through CL semi finals or winning a final playing ugly is acceptable. playing against cannon fodder liga teams ugly is unacceptable

You say that now. But a title’s a title and nobody is going to complain about winning a Cl, regardless of how we played to win it.

We just won the double and we still talk shit about Valverde and his football. I agree with the other poster, I'm not one of the players, I don't get my pictures taken with the trophies, I don't get salary bonuses, or anything else. Why should I be so obsessed for trophies OVER everything else? Chelsea won the CL and their fans still complained about the atrocious football, despite being a "defensive football" club. Trust me, lots of fans still won't give a damn and they'll want Valverde out.
