Ernesto Valverde - V1

OK, what are you betting on? I will bet against it. No way Dembele is going to be a starter when Griezmann is coming. I think Dembele's career will end the moment we officially announce Griezmann's signing.

Also, besides his injuries, EV only started playing Semedo when it was safe for him to do so. Meaning, mathematically hard to lose the league. Arnaiz wasn't even needed as much as Alena so not sure why even mentioning him and his injury.

I disagree with you about Dembele, I think Griezmann is a Suarez replacement not Dembele's.
Arnaiz was mentioned in the post I quoted, EV seemed to like him and was playing him when he got injured, I didn't mention ALena because I agreed with the poster I quoted that he actually should have played more.
And no, Semedo was getting a lot of minutes even before mathematically winning the league, and again I don't think that Semedo not playing has anything to do with "youth" since he isn't young either and him and Roberto are from same age category

If Valverde has the guts to bench Suarez after signing Griezmann it will be a big move in the right direction.

We'll see next season if Valverde has learned his lessons or he really is a dumb manager. He's getting a marginal passing grade for this season (though I would've sacked him after the Roma disaster).

I'd give him a 7/10.

He doesn't know if he should risk Dembele when La Liga is already won, can't wait for this fraud to fuck off.

What is your beef with Suarez?

You believe everything that you read on the Internet?

I'm sure Valverde went to a Sports "journalist" and explained: "Yeah, look, this is what I want to do in the next game, but I'm unsure if I should do this and that."

You’d be surprised what stuff people believe on the internet.

My favourites are stuff like.... “Messi angry with teammate, wants him sold” etc.. like they have Messi wire tapped in his home or something

I don't even think it is a question of learning lessons when it comes to Valverde.

This team desperately needs mental fortitude, hunger, intensity and fighting spirit more than it needs any sort of tactical genius. And in order to achieve these things you need to make ballsy decisions like getting rid of or benching players who are not putting the work in, even if they are big names. You need to be cutthroat. Something that imo is the complete opposite of EV's character and is unnatural to him.

We've been utterly humiliated 3 times in the past two years in the CL and during those games our players walked around with their heads down sulking and accepting defeat early on in the game.

Mentally, FC Barcelona is as soft as baby lotion.

No offense to EV, but he doesn't have the character or ruthlessness to put some of these players in their place and light a fire in the team that the likes of a Simeone, Jupp or Klopp can their teams.

lol as if Coutinho is just an option. He'll start for sure as he easily is our 2nd best attacking-minded player on the pitch. The rest depends on the fitness of Don Andres. If he is fit Coutinho will play on the right wing. If he is not fit Coutinho will play his position and Valverde probably will go for a 4-4-2.

This is a well-known interview and Cruyff did praise EV also when he was Valencia's manager. But that's before EV's changing his playing style and grow fond of Helenio Herrera's Catenaccio style. Cruyff would be so critical of the way Barcelona is playing under EV now.

True. There are managers who maybe like a certain way of playing but in the face of pressure they abandon it and choose to play it safe. Maybe Valverde is like that. Maybe he would like to play something closer to that Barca football, but just doesn't have the guts to do it because he's afraid he might fail with it.

If not even now, when we've won the double, he won't allow this team to play to the fullest of their offensive ability because we might lose the game, I'm afraid the chances of this team playing Barca football with him going forward are slim.

Why is he deluded? How can someone prefer a trophy and ugly football? Explain what do you get from it. Do you get to take a picture with the trophy? Do you get millions in bonuses for winning it? Besides of sleeping in front of the TV watching, what else do you get? :banghead:

Incredible. Why do Real get praise for winning the CL 2 years in a row and maybe 3? Not because they are playing well, but would you seriously suggest that you don't want us to do that, because it wouldn't be pure?

OK, what are you betting on? I will bet against it. No way Dembele is going to be a starter when Griezmann is coming. I think Dembele's career will end the moment we officially announce Griezmann's signing.

I bet Dembele will get a lot more playingtime than now next season even if Griezmann is signed. Remember that Valverde doesn't trust Paco, even though he got him to perform during short spells, and therefore in his eyes no one competed with Suarez for real. Griezmann would do that and therefore we cannot use Suarez' playingtime this season as an indicator for next season, if we sign Griezmann.

What is your beef with Suarez?

He will most likely play a larger portion of next season like he did the first part of this. That is a huge problem for our team, because when in shit-form he is not only unfocused/wasting goalchances, but a outright liability who ruins chances for others in the team. That really need to be fixed if we want to accomplish anything trophy-wise next season.

I don't even think it is a question of learning lessons when it comes to Valverde.

As it was rumoured with Semedo and Dembele: Not taking the off-field athlete life serious enough, and therefore ruthless Valverde benched them to teach them a lesson. Not for long, but still enough to send a signal. He did the same with Paco and Deulofeu. Perform - and if you don't, you are out. But I guess those examples doesn't count. I do agree that we need to sign players who are mentally strong and can drive their teammates forward!

Light a fire and a hunger and a immense energy-explosion of footballing love, like we saw in the Copa-final, or what kind of fire in the team are you talking about? :)

I'm quite sure Valverde will bench Suarez from time to time next season if he gets a viable alternative like Griezmann.
