Ernesto Valverde - V1

Messi saved his ass once again.

Since the introduction of Arthur and we are playing so much better. Smart, technical passer/controller type player>>> Physical workhorses players. This was the missing piece of the puzzle in Barca midfield since Xavi's departure and took 4 seasons to realize it. Arthur gave EV the solution beside Messi.

Great job - except 45-60 but yeah, credit where it's due - Actually, bringing on Dembele as soon as Madrid shifted to 3-4-3 would have been better but still mostly good game for him

I guess it's natural against a top team, but we didn't look good at the beginning of the second half.
Madrid were let in too easily into the game.

EV definitely did great today, I wont be afraid to say that. But that doesnt change the fact that he was lacklustre from the start of the season, should be showing such stuff more often.

Showed exactly the meaning of great impact subs today. But at least I wont be twisting into the mental gymnastics of some of his fans, should he fail to make meaningful or early subs.

Of course, he needs to take lessons away from such games and not repeat his old ways again. Season's still long and I really hope he can show it.

He deserves credit tonight for the win. What i like most is the adjustments he made after Lopetegui switched to a back 3 and they started putting us on the ropes. He could have responded quicker but good reading of the game situation there. All the subs made sense. Dembele gave us the outlet on the counter to use his speed, Semedo and Vidal brought energy that we badly needed, at one point i was wondering if it would be 2-2 but we responded well. Coins for Ernie.

Agreed. Credit where credit's due.

Seems fitting that the hardest run of games we had this month we ended up passing in flying colors.

Seems like the stumbling block is the weaker teams a bit. Just need to be better against those sides.

Good subs, but Ernie, man... ffs, you're allowed to make chances before the 65th minute. Respond to what the opponent is doing. And do it in time. If they made 2-2 nobody knows how the game would've went.

No sub would have corrected for Madrid going from 0 to a 100 on pressure. It's players' responsibility to keep in mind that the game has two halves and all he can do is say "be careful and don't get complacent", but it's up to the players to factor it in and stay focused. Whether he did or not is not something we will ever know.

Good game Valverde. Exploited all the gaps Madrid left.

Right subs would've stung Madrid on the break faster. Sometimes when an opponent makes a tactical change, you need to respond. Make sure the opponent feels that there can be consequences if you apply too much pressure on Barca.

This was actually Valverde's problem vs Roma too. Tried to survive the storm when he should've cleared it by being more decisive. Barcelona aren't a team like Atletico who can keep a 2-0 without any problems. We are an attacking team.

Semedo and Dembele are the players you want when in space. Madrid gave up a lot of space very early in the 2nd half. They just entered the pitch too late imo.

I thought October was going to be a disaster for us but credit to EV. He delivered brilliant results this month despite having a horrendous schedule of difficult games.

Credit where it is due.

But they did.

Ridiculous standards on some of you these days lol. Won't ever let the players sort it out themselves when facing adversity, will you?
