It's a logical response. For a manager who's a short-term solution himself. If he had decided what to do with his career, his answer might be different. Without the quote, feels taken out of context. Missing part: "No sé qué haré la próxima temporada. En esto del fútbol, quién lo sabe." Probably wants to wait and see how the season goes. + he knows he's got a limited amount of trust and that no major fuckup will be tolerated.
I think it makes sense and it's fair from him. He probably wants to wait to see how he does in CL, knowing that this year CL is the major interest. But, career wise, if he wins the CL his best option would still be to move.
I think most people look at the situation as; its the end of our golden era, struggles to follow and EV is doing the best he can with the squad available. i kinda felt that when we started well after losing Neymar and then Dembele early but you can tell the sign of a shit manager when were still scraping results with one of the best squads in europe. i can forgive a defensive/negative performance vs say Bayern away in the CL semi's etc but doing it against bottom la liga teams is unacceptable
Every manager is scraping results at times though. Liverpool with fecking Klopp barely made it out to Last 16 in CL, and were one Milik chance away to go out in the Group Stage, a great embarrassment for a top club. I don't really blame Valverde for scraping some results here and there, as the season is usually hard, especially when you're playing in a competitive league like La Liga certainly is.
But where he really is a major disappointment is squad management. He is awful at it. Doesn't know to use his players in a way to get the best out of them and to have them fresh for the biggest part of the season. It's an important asset for a Barca manager, vital some would say.
