You talking about Rijkaard's Barca to try to belittle Cruyff's heritage is completely crazy and hilarious. Rijkaard's Barca is actually the biggest proof that Cruyff's model is the best.

Quick historical review:
2003: Laporta, a pure Cruyffista, becomes FCB president.
2003 also: Cruyff advises Rijkaard as main coach to Laporta.
2004-2005: Rijkaard's Barca wins La Liga for the first time since 1999
2005-2006: Rijkaard's Barca wins CL + La Liga.

But yeah, fuck Cruyff. Rijkaard was a Valverdista !

Yea, I agree with [MENTION=22178]YodaMaster[/MENTION], I see it the same. Lucho's Barcelona was similar to that of Rijkhaard's. People here make it sound like Rikhaard's team was anything less than a formidable football side providing great entertainment.

Hell, I'd say the 2009 team with Pep in the first season is also closer to that, than to 2011's Barcelona. 2011 Barcelona was rather different than 2009 Barcelona. 2011 was Pep's vision fulfilled. 2009 was him still adapting to the squad and using players' fortes, rather than modeling the team to fit exactly his vision.

In 2009 he used the players that were there before, most notably, Yaya Toure, Eto'o and Henry. Players that didn't really fit Pep's vision to a tea. All 3 were basically excluded after Pep's first season. Replaced by Busi permanently, Pedro (a year later Villa), Ibrahimovic (really bad bad transfer), Messi at false 9.

I'd completely take out the 2011 side as something that can't be bettered in terms of style, ability and power. Would completely toss it aside as something we can't reasonably pursue and make an achievable achievable in the future. But the 2015 Barca, 2006 Barca, even 2009 Barcelona to an extent, can be models that we can aspire to.

If our target is to try to hold on defending some leads here and there like Valverde tries to do, and maybe have Messi and Suarez score some goals while doing very light defensive work, this is not Barca. Sorry.

The teams that went on attacking are the one who qualified to the next round. Watching this Ajax team playing made me really smile.
