Ernesto Valverde - V1

People just don't like him and never will.

I'm sure it's nothing personal for those who don't like him, you make it sounds like people hate him here for no reason. I spent more than 85 hours last season watching us play boring conservative football. Do you think I'm excited to have another 85 hrs of my life wasted on watching Catenaccio football? I pay a lot to watch decent football so of course, I'm critical of the person who is responsible of turning Barca style into anti-football philosophy. This just one of many reasons to dislike him.

When you lose the way we did at Roma, in the eyes of a portion (majority?) of the fanbase, you will be looked upon as a lost cause.

Valverde has lost a siginificant portion of the fanbase, he can earn them back but it’s going to take something spectacular.

See Jupp Heynckes after the 2012 CL loss. Fans were at his throat but he bounced back the season after.

This is why it is trivial to get into debates about this guy, it’s understandable that people can’t stand his football and was responsible for one of the most historic humiliations in our history, but at the same time he won a domestic double with a relatively poor squad by Barca standards.

Both sides of the fence have valid arguments.

I don't think it's personal either. I'm not talking about reasons why because it's irrelevant to my point. Roma match for some, boring football for others and so on. But you admit you dislike him.

In my opinion, that's exactly why his every single decision is doubted and 'criticized'. It's comical, really. As if he wasn't able to make a single right call. In advance - this doesn't mean that all criticism is in itself bad and unjust.

Btw., lol at Catenaccio, anti-football thing.

Barca job not suitable for everyone, it demands a high degree of performance and should have a rigorous performance evaluation system just like top firms. If the manager does not meet the acceptable levels of performance and goals, he should be given a warning and asked for improvements. If he persists and didn't improve, he should be fired. I know what you and EV's cheerleaders would say, he won trophies. First, that's the minimum requirements for any Barca manager. We won 8 Liga titles out of 10 the past decade, so what EV did wasn't exceptional by any means.

And this is only one aspect when you evaluate a Barca manager, then you have the style of play. No team in the world has a more iconic style of play than Barcelona, so when a manager comes and tweak that style, we are all fine with it, it's part of the evolution. But what EV did is transform Barca style into something we don't know, call it Mourinho style, Catenaccio (Probably you had to google it ;)), defensive style etc. whatever you want to call it, it's not Barcelona, it's ugly and boring.

I don't want to start with his match tactics, overly reliance on Messi, overplaying underperformers, man-management, treatment of youngsters and La Masia...etc. The list goes on and on. A high degree of performance at Barcelona require an excellence in all those important aspects, not just one aspect.

It's really not as simple as "As if he wasn't able to make a single right call." At a club like Barcelona, we demand the best, creme de la creme for any manager. We should only hire the absolute best. No room for mediocracy and Valverde farts mediocracy in every game we play.

:VdB: Where to start? Wishful thinking on what Barca should look like? Delusional narrative? Resorting for ad hominems and undermining interlocutor's knowladge with a conveniant winikng emoji to help you feel on top? Missing the whole point, again?

(1) At the same time, we won domestic double like 8 times in our history, so it's not a bare minimum no matter how you twist it. Last season, considering expectations, was a great one regarding successes only shadowed by a shameful defeat in Rome.

(2) Google it, look in books, won't change - Ernie's football has nothing to do with catenaccio. Another thing. You're talking about style... views on that are different. Some are in sought of Pep's legacy, others want us to evolve. What each of us thinks is of no importance here. Barcelona has principles. Our style is a spectrum, not a point. Or at least should be. If we want to stay on top.

(3) 'we at Barcelona'... does that include the board who's (allegedly) willing to extend Ernie's contract? Or the socios supporting the people in charge? ;)

Won't even come back to my point. So you don't have to miss it again.

Seriously, you could have ignored my post if you don't have a serious answer to it. Stop trying too hard to be witty because it only makes you look like you are experiencing little social anxiety. You keep undervaluing the opinion of others, that's fine, but don't expect some of us to take you seriously when you act like a clown. TC

Holy shit, you're a special case

Call our style catenaccio and then proceed to claim that other users are suitable ignorant that they have to Google it, followed by a little winking smiley. And then you call him out for making witty remarks - and throw in a sad little jibe about social anxiety in the process - and thus not being able to take him seriously? Are you fucking retarded?

See Jupp Heynckes after the 2012 CL loss. Fans were at his throat but he bounced back the season after.

I agree almost entirely with your post but...
Heynckes didn't win anything in his 1st year, he lost the league to young Dortmund team, he lost 5 in the DFB-Pokal final to Dortmund too. In the CL he had an easy way to SF and then beaten an unimpressive RM side with penalties just to lose the final at his home against mediocre Chelsea side.
EV played the league against a side that was called RM greatest side in modern football, everyone said we were inferior to them prior to the season. He was promised Verratti to found himself losing Neymar and even his big signing getting injured.
I think this what makes it a bit unfair for judging him cruly based on Roma game.

Also I respect those who doesn't like EV football, that is fair. But I don't like those who just shit on him because he doesn't do things they like, he doesn't play Semedo, why didn't he sub Malcom ? why Suarez still playing and the whole list of bs.
At the end coach job is to get results and to entertain, not to put our fairy tale thinking if best line up.

Aye, could've ignored it the way you just ignored points I made replying to you. First I'm a cheerleader, then ignorant and now experiencing a little social anxiety. Talk about acting like a clown.

By the way, what witty remarks? Tackled 3 claims in my previous post.

Fuck off Copenhagen, I think this Laporta dude can defend himself, never said or think he is a beta for you to be his lawyer. I fucking hate when people like you just stick their noses where it doesn't belong, just because you dislike my point of view. If you got annoyed by one sentence me think he doesn't understand it (which I still think he doesn't understand), then you should be more annoyed by his every sentence with lols and winks trying to act cocky. No GTFO

You are actually funny. You just try to find anyone who has an alternative/extreme view of an issue and just support him/them. Not sure what's the point really.

DonAK

President of FC Barcelona
He's apparently not going to tell the club whether he'll stay or go until after New Year. His contract runs out in 2019.

I think he'll leave after this season or at most sign a one-year extension.

Luftstalag14

Culé de Celestial Empire
Either way we should start thinking about a replacement. Making those calls. Do like what Leipzig did to secure Nagelsmann one year before he starts.
