Give him credit for the Vidal Sub and for keeping Suarez in the game. Not just luck I think. Life is good again, Messi is back!

"Saved?"

Spare me with this bollocks. No manager goes out on to the pitch themselves and scores goals or defends attacks.

They simply set the team up. Valverde started a good team and was proactive with his substitutions. He has improved immensely that regard.

If winning a match by a late goal means the manager was "saved" then I guess Iniesta "saved" the mighty Pep against Chelsea in 2009. Also don't forget how Alisson "saved" the great Klopp from going crashing out of the group stage last season.

Utter rubbish of the highest order and simply another fallacy ridden, emotionally driven argument that only applies to Valverde.

We played shit for the most part of the game without any control.

He was "saved" because most people, probably the players too, go out of this game with good sensations, because they fought and managed a great comeback.

This won't work in the long run. Valverde lives to fight another day.

Should be our starting midfield and the basis for signing a midfielder next summer. The problem is that Vidal is the only midfielder who can fill that role this season. Perhaps Alena too.

Why is that a problem? Vidal is still a monster player. His limitations are a problem when you pair him with slow and poor passers like Rakitic. But with Arthur and De Jong, they complement each other well. Almost like he did at Bayern with Thiago and Xabi Alonso.

He's 32 and had multiple knee issues the last 3-4 years. If he's overplayed it leaves us with no alternative.

Yes, but not all 32 years old players are the same. And his knee seems fine. Didn't have a single problem with it last season.

Milner is almost 34 btw.

Point is: He need to be rotated wisely so we have him when we really need him.

Anyway, I doubt Busquets get dropped anytime soon anyway.

Busi should be dropped for CL no doubt. He's too slow for this rythm. Vidal adds speed, muscle, intensity and balls. De Jong and Arthur will put in the passes and will connect the compartments. They did that very well today too. Both found Messi in space time and time again, as did Vidal.

We're not winning the CL with this manager, but with this team we can win the league and try to play better in CL, to see where it takes us. Probably to another quarter/semi defeat, but still, we need to do what we can.

We are like Madrid tbh. If we win we do it because the star players turn up. The manager doesn't add anything in terms of smart tactics and great match preparation. He's just there like a pole and that's about it.

If we play better than last year in CL we have a shot at the title  I completely disagree about Vidal as well. Hes not good enough anymore, todays game just shows the short memory of fans. He had his fair share of appaling games as well - just like Busquets. If anything we should give players time on merit - if those are Rakitics, Vidals or Busquets is secondary.

Well said and pretty much spot on. We need brilliance from few certain players to have a chance, not like team effort (Liverpool).

Yea, and even then, the manager could completely fuck it up with one of his managerial brain farts.

Our advantages are:

- Camp Nou strenght, unbeaten here in 6 years
- Messi
- A solid midfield again
- Solid & fast fullbacks

Weaknesses:

- Slow central defenders
- Crap manager
- Complacency
- Not the best fitness level

Yea, the most problematic thing is not that we suffered in this game. This means feck all. Liverpool barely made it out from the group stages last year and won the whole thing, and even this year they're struggling.

The problem is seeing the same errors happening again.

I can, however, say that Valverde has clearly improved in an important area, and that is player selection and starting formation. He needs to cut Roberto and he's finally picking the best formation he has.

But the other things, he can't fix them. He can't become a different person and just attain knowledge he doesn't have overnight.
