Okay, then... what's your point? Valverde was the master of La Liga and Zidane of CL? And which tournament is more prestigious? I believe we all know the answer.
I have to disagree with Lucho losing to Real Madrid left and right as we gave the second best beating at Bernabeu in modern era on Real Madrid after the 2-6 in 2009 with that 0-4 in 2015. Leo Messi was just back from injury and not fit to play a full game and came in the second half with no major contribution.
Overall Lucho's El Clasico record is 3 wins, 2 defeats, 1 draw. And for the record Lucho wasn't sacked, he stepped away due to the pressure of the job or for personal reasons - the illness of his daughter, I can only guess. Lucho is still active and successful as manager, meanwhile where is grandmaster Valverde? The rumour he is Man Utd candidate manager recently sounded like a troll news to pleasure rival Liverpool fans.
No.
Regarding Lucho, my point is: we should compare Barca from pre-EV in terms: how did we look like in the last 12 or 18 months before EV?
Because people say that we had Messi and a good team.
Remember that pre-EV:
1. in 2015/16 we were breaking records in autumn and winter and then we almost blew 15 points advantage in the spring and barely won La liga
2. in 2016/17, our bad form from 2016 continued, remember that Lucho couldn't control any away match and he tried 343 because our midfield was lost.
So, in 2016 spring, we were around 10 points behind RM.
And in 2016/17 we were again behind RM.
So, for the last 18 months prior to EV = we were 15 points behind RM.
And then EV comes, and suddenly in the next 24 months, he had 36 points more than the same RM who had 15 points more than us in 18 months prior to him.
Weird, isn't it?
Especially considering that Lucho even had MSN (Neymar) and EV played first season without Neymar, forever injured Dumbele and Coutinho who came in January.
So, when people reply: it was NOT EV, it was our good team who was winning titles, then I ask:
1. how come that we have seen such a dramatic change: from -15 against Real to +36 points infront of Real during EV
2. and when EV left the club, in the next 24 Months, we were:
-5 behind RM (Setien)
-7 behind RM (Koeman)
-15 behind RM (Koeman and Xavi)
So, check the numbers again:
2016 and 2017: Barca is -15 points behind RM
Ernest Valverde: Barca is +36 points infront of RM
After EV: Barca is -27 points behind RM
Maybe Valverde wasn't the worst coach who has ever walked on Earth and didn't deserve to be called Retardo and similar?
