Ernesto Valverde

Here come the Erniesexuals to absolve him of any blame.

Everyone at the club had a role in the Anfield and Roma debacles, and as the manager, Ernie takes first blame. That is his job. To lead. And he failed in the pivotal moments.

Find the EV cult on this forum a tad weird but amusing nonetheless. Don't get the hate boner some people have for him either. Think he did a fantastic job with what he had.

Think he's a good manager, rate him but he isn't the 3rd best behind Pep and Klopp or close to a top 5 coach itw like some people claim.

Should take blame for Roma but not Liverpool. That was entirely on the players.

Players shall take all the blame for being mental midgets

Ernie shall take all the blame for going out to play this coward-ish football in 2019, with a sit-back 4-4-2 out of the ball, with no pressing,
with man-marking on the last line of defense FFS

Yes, he won 2 leagues in Spain comfortably, but when RM was shite, Atleti even shittier, had no real opposition, and was winning ugly against sides that didn't practice any of the basics of modern intensity as Linders beautifully explained in the vid.

Enough is enough with all the excuses he gets here.

That year was so close to being something very different though.

If we had gotten through to the final, we probably would have beaten Tottenham. Then how would people have looked at EV? One of Barca's best coaches of all time?

So really one breakdown at Anfield has changed his entire legacy. And it should, because it was terrible. But it was one day and if just one of those chances had gone in, just a bit more luck, we may have had another CL, with a relatively very poor roster.

Blaming Valverde for the poor intensity and lack of pressing from the front in that team is like arguing it is Poch's fault that PSG weren't pressing from the front with intensity this season.

You could argue that the Roma loss was more shameful. Messi was absolutely invisible in the second leg, shit performance by most players. There was no reason for EV to park the bus against them. Also Umshiti got destroyed by Dzeko, I had never seen a CB get so victimized by a striker. Absolute pathetic display by most players. IIRC, only Iniesta was playing decently that match and EV shit his pants and subbed him out.

Liverpool was a very strong team in 2019, and heck to be fair the 3-0 in the first leg was very flattering to us.

Coach should at least ask for new players, if that's the case.

Sorry, no
Coach's tactics and the responsibility for implementing them lie with the coach.
He is not going to get white-washed because of his squad.
No one forced him to take the Barca job, as no one forced Poch to take the PSG job.
Maybe a bad job for any coach to take in 2017 given the state of football and the trends, as is a bad job for any coach to take PSG in 2021.

Still the choice was freely made

Indeed. In the last 10 minutes where Dembele came on and we actually attacked, we looked like we could create goal scoring chances on every occasion.

Speaks volumes about Valverde's Barcelona that we started the season with zero expectations of winning anything, was going unbeaten in the league for a long time and yet fans were were still turning against Valverde BEFORE Rome even happened.

There were too many games where we were outplayed but pulled the wins thanks to the individual ability of the Yerba Mate boys.

Valverde had no choice, if he would told Messi and Suarez to defend he would have been fired the next day :p Players like Messi (at Barca), Ronaldo( at Real) or Neymar (first seasons at PSG) are over the clubs (should not be so, but that's the reality) so a coach needs to adapt to them.

Then, he should have left the job and came out criticizing Messi and Suarez in public.

If we are to believe he had no power, no one was holding him hostage as our manager. He chose not to do anything to counteract bad cultural patterns.

It's a stupid video because it wasn't a tactical masterclass by any stretch. All the goals were absoultely vile, I don't recall anything similar happening at school or sunday league.
Tactics don't make: Alba crumble, Suarez crap away from home, Coutinho unable to shoot, ter-Standing not try and save a shot, etc... What it is it the occasion and pressure.
