Euro 2020 (2021)

El Gato

Villarato!
If one more goal scored I'd start taking players off if I were Spain. Poles will just get fouling angrily. Heads gone 40 mins in

We need to start a conversation about Lewandowski international performances in major tournaments

There is one: if Poland are avtually better without him. It's a recurring discussion in smaller countries with one huge star. Same in Sweden with Zlatan.

Get El Flaco in for that
Pretty sure I know what he'll say

Eeeh
Yes and no

Every country that has remotely similar talent structure suffers from same problems. 1-3 players head and shoulders above the rest, terrible coaching choices by the FA, years and years of terrible performances spurring on an expectation from the nation that your star will make you automatically competitive... Takes generations to turn this around.
IMO they made progress in last 10-15 years. Lots more players playing in quality sides in Italy, Germany, some in bottom half EPL, some used to win Europa. But as soon as they need to play for the country with that kind of baggage and living up to legacies of teams from the 80's, it's just never there. And not going to be there until talent gap is closed a bit. Especially in defense. Lots of these Slavs are big fat tall fucks who have no flair, make turns at the pace of a dumptruck and can't kick a ball straight consistently. Always get outplayed in a tournament by the poorest sides who have even a hint of skill (Ecuador, Senegal)

I think Poland peaked at the last Euro. Is normal for the reasons El Gato stated.

They were a really good side that year who were the better side in the quarter versus Portugal.

The squad was very good. Still held back by inferiorities in their heads, poor manager who just got handed the peak of a generation (all three of BVB - Kuba, Piszczek, Lewa at their vet best). If that Poland was coached by someone like Queiroz for 2-3 years ahead of that tournament, or anyone who had some experience in the west and came in with automatic legitimacy and wouldn't have to prove something (like Sousa does now), no doubt they'd have beaten that Portugal side.
