Southgate has gone full Didier Deschamps.

I think he's well aware the team is able to play good football, but also that it may open them up more at the back. Don't think he has that much faith in his backline and knows a one-off game can go either way.

He's sacrificing all that to win. Let's see if it works. It's just what international football have turned out to be.

Kane got the most goals and most assists in the Premier League last season and still didn't get the player of the season award. I doubt there would be much appetite to give him the Ballon D'Or no matter what he does tonight.
