Article is designed to show you there were gaps in that 4-3-3, but Germany had to work very hard for that one goal, which in this case didn't even come, and at the same time not find yourself caught out on the break.
Which doesn't suggest the tactical approach was as poor as your interpretive statement would suggest.
Definitely not claiming 'they got better of France defensive setup' or that they were 'unlucky' at any point.
Plus France played a slightly different way to normal.
Gnabry's chance alone is one goal, but other than that:
The point of the article was not to show that Germany missed tons of sitters, but rather that they were tactically superior in breaking through France's defense through the use of their wide players in their 3-4-3.
This is a good article in showing the so called 'non-shot xG' which is a new stat coming up, designed to depict territorial dominance close to or in the opposition's box that does not end up in a final shot.
And that was precisely the case with Germany. If they were more concentrated in their final pass/cross, they would have more clear chances.
You cannot argue France defense was not threatened.
France and getting hit on the counter, a rare sight.

Basically.....only way to beat France IMO is to score the first goal and sit deep and beat them at what they do best. But you have to score the first goal. If France scores first they'll sit deep and force you to commit forward and then finish you with a counter.
Check the Rabiot thread. BBZ gushing about him just because he is starting
