Btw, as I have wrote before Euros:

Sorry, couldn't agree less with this. Our main problem was visible from the end of WC where we played only on motive.Let's be honest Dalic was never top coach it was just impossible to criticize him after WC.
Our main problem is complete lack of game plan. We are the only team attacking with 2 players, even Macedonia plays much better football in terms of tactics.
We play slow, individual football full of improvisation, and yes I agree with your post below: with stupid line up.
If you play like this Petkovic is a must player as he can control the ball from nothing and wait for wing players.

But Rakitic wouldn't add ANYTHING to this, only increase our slow, sterile game.
I woul always prefer faster, modern, hungry players than mid table "stars" that must play but never produce. Even though Kramaric or Rebic are "on paper" better than Ivanusec, Orsic or Vlasic I would always prefer the latter with Petkovic up front.

Unrelated, but your signature's been bothering me lately. Why did you change all Messis to Martens with the exception of the one at RCM? It's so dissatisfying.

Lol. I have been using mobile exclusively lately and didn't notice the sig error. Don't worry, new signature upcoming.

An excellent piece by Michael Cox, analyzing how Germany's system got the better of France's impenetrable defense a few nights ago, and were unlucky not to score some goals.

They didn't get better of the defense and not really what the message of the article is.
It plainly tells you why there's apparent statistical advantage for Germany.

As for chances, it's not 'some goals', it's one goal. Cumulative. Barely any of the chances they created were good enough too.
All the while France had 2 goals barely chalked off for offside, the Rabiot chance, and the own goal. That's a win by 3 goals even if you take into account the goal that didn't come for Germany.

Article is designed to show you there were gaps in that 4-3-3, but Germany had to work very hard for that one goal, which in this case didn't even come, and at the same time not find yourself caught out on the break.
Which doesn't suggest the tactical approach was as poor as your interpretive statement would suggest.
Definitely not claiming 'they got better of France defensive setup' or that they were 'unlucky' at any point.
Plus France played a slightly different way to normal.

I think it wasn't as much of a problem with a system. Our offensive players simply couldnt fucking control a ball for a whole 90mins. I believe based on the game we should've beaten France on a normal day, but almost everyone looked off this time. Everyones first touch was awful. Everytime we lost the ball in situations where we should create something. As much as I hate Loew and wish he wasn't our coach, he wasn't the one at fault for once. We should've ended up at a far better result on any other given day.
