[Swiss Ramble] - Here's a clue as to why 12 clubs have signed up for a European Super League: They lost a combined 1.2 billion pound in 2019/20 before player sales*. And that was for a season where only the last 3 months were impacted by COVID... *Liverpool have not yet published their accounts

[Swiss Ramble] - Reasons for the European Super League, part 2: the 12 clubs have 5.6 bln pound of debt, per UEFA's definition of financial debt (3.5 bln pound) and transfer debt (2.1 bln pound). Moreover, almost all of the financial debt has come from banks (3.3 bln pound), compared to only 0.2 bln pound from owners.

most likely it is the 30-34 people that are unhappy in the 18-34 category.

let's face it, future is all about what young people want. and the clubs know this.

surprised rakuten isn't involved. or maybe they support us in all this as streaming football on-demand will be all the rage in the future.
Than let them have those plastic glory hunters fans they want and we ll continue supporting our local teams than. No worries.Football didn t started and it ll not end with Barcelona either. Not for me.

So thats almost 10 games off what he would have to play just for club comps.

Exclude the useless Nations league and club friendlies. Since this will be replace the CL you can remove at least 8 games. That totals up to 16 games. So they only have to squeeze 2 more games in. If FIFA can do it for so many years already Im sure the ESL can.

If this 12 clubs are banned from competitions... That means that player contracts are not valid anymore...

As soon as this happens, every contract will need to be re-signed.

Off topic: Let's assume this thing goes through , do you think that it will give Mbappe more incentive to stay ?

That's a really tough question. Will players think the prestige of the upcoming SuperLeague is greater than anything else in football? Not sure, but since Mbappe already won the WC, he might decide to focus on winning a prestigious club trophy rather than a second world cup. It's been said that after the WC final, one of his french teammate asked him why he didn't look more happy after winning a WC. Mbappe answered "I haven't won the UCL yet". He later explained that WC is probably the greatest tournament in the world, but he won it on his first try, so he didn't experience the frustration of losing it. Failing to grasp something leads to anticipation obviously, and he already failed to win the UCL several times. If UCL loses all its appeal because of the SuperLeague, Mbappe might focus mostly on winning that shiny new trophy, even if it means saying goodbye to winning a second WC.

That being said, this issue seems very unlikely considering how much FIFA would have to lose in all that.

Ceferin (UEFA President): "All players that play in the Super League will be banned from playing in the Euros and the World Cup."

Good.

Hopefully, International football dies too.

Olympic Games Football tournament will become pretty huge then.

Pick one:
a) Either internationals are stretched and the ESL will therefor see a reason to use the break and play more games in the long run. (the current design was WITH internationals in mind)
b) internationals arent stretched and its 10 games extra from there.

Also you think Frenkie De Jong wouldnt want to play at WCs?

But its quite likely that PSG will end up joining.

All these theatrics of Bayern, PSG and the likes showing great moral restraint is a total crock of shite. If this Super League does eventually get of the ground and replaces the CL as the premier intracontinental football tournament of Europe, every half decent club will come crawling on it's knees to be accepted in.

The only fair model of the CL is the European Cup one...which also gave meaning to the UEFA cup.

Outside of the guaranteed spots for founders, I prefer the proposed ESL to current CL.
