Why though? As dominant as Bayern is, they have never sold out to billionaire owners nor have they ever supported any ideas that would establish their dominance. In fact they are the main ones that push for hard-set salary/transfer/agent caps in football despite this potentially threatening their domestic dominance.

25% of Bayern is owned by three corporate shareholders, the 3As and their roles cannot be understated and overlooked. A couple of years ago, BMW wanted to replace Audi as Bayern?s official car sponsor and buy out Audi?s shares in Bayern as well, only to be outbid by Audi with a better deal from Audi. Bayern has received quite a lot of money from the 3As via selling the initial shares to them (got around 300m if I am not mistaken which was used to build the Allianz Arena) and subsequent sponsorship deals from those three.

Just saying Bayern is not completely innocent when it comes to money. In their defense, yes, they did push for abolishing 50+1, by doing so it will make German club football more competitive with more money from investors which will strengthen other clubs and eat away Bayern?s dominance.

By the way Yannik, that official club statement that you decried earlier as blaming the 1.3b debt on the pandemic, no, that part is just standard ESL press release verbiage, all participating clubs are using that generic verbiage. Yes, BS indeed, they were planning this for years, just using COVID as an excuse to unveil it now.

Look at the backlash the founding clubs are receiving and their players being blackmailed by FIFA/UEFA. It is only logical that they get relegation immunity (atleast for the startup period of say 5-10 years) to give this structurally the security to succeed.

Imagine Arsenal (coz they suck) getting relegated in the first season. Will Uefa let them back into Uefa European competition? Probably not.

As said, there needs to be some sort of security to set this up for the clubs. The same for TV Rights holders and sponsors. They need the guarantee that the clubs will stick around.

Which brings the other issue for Uefa, will tv rights holders and sponsors fulfill their Champions League obligations if there is an exodus of 20 of the top clubs? This is what Uefa is most concerned about. Don't forget that they forced a CL mini tournament in 2020 at the peak of the pandemic just to fulfil obligations.

So in conclusion, a closed system sucks but it is also a necessity for the SuperLeague itself.

Yannik is a good guy, except for the part where he turns into a full time Bayern lawyer every other month or so.

I dont really get the point. 25% of the club is owned by corpoerate shareholders. 75% is not. So you dont have a situation where a company can decide things against fans interest.. How 50+1 works.

And that's the point. A club owner is in the role of an absolutist monarch that does whatever he wants, i.e. form the super league.
A sponsor or minority shareholder can at best be a lobbyist in a democracy where the average joe can outvote him anyway.
