Yeah, they wanted to change things so the teams will have problems figuring out the best strategy but it kinda failed cause it just makes races a 1 1/2 hour qualifying session with cars on different strategies not having any interest in fighting for position.
Option tires are made to be a 3-5 lap pushing short stint neither for Q + first laps or the last laps rather than as the main set used in 2 or 3 stints along with a obligated stint with the hard tires. The idea isn't bad, just that options should be made for around 10, in which case we might've actually seen a fight for 1st position in the last moments of the Chinese GP but like this, in 5 there wasn't much action to see.
