Saras gone, replaced by Barça Athletic coach. I am guessing the expectation for next season is basically not expecting much? Need to get into the playoffs.

We've paid 1m clause for Joventut's Joel Parra.

Club also announced they've made an official offer to Willy Hernangomez but Madrid holds his rights in the ACB league so they could match our offer in next 5 days. And we're reportedly also close to sign his brother Juancho who is currently without a club.

Madrid didn't match our offer so Willy Hernangomez is a Barca player.

Don't know what the plan is, Mirotic is still here and according to latest reports teams like PAO, Olympiakos and Milan don't want to give him wages he wants. At the same time we're spending more money. Willy will be apparently on 4,2m gross and we'll probably now sign his brother as well.

How can Barça sign big with 13 million less budget?

The key must be found in that LaLiga has allowed terminations (Mirotic's will rise by around 15 million) not to count as an expense in the section's budget

Barça basketball is undertaking a very important budget reduction this summer in response to the delicate economic situation in which the Barça club finds itself. The section manager Juan Carlos Navarro advanced it and President Joan Laporta confirmed it days later: of the nearly 40 million euros that were listed as expenses in the 2022-23 season, it will now go to 27.2 million. In other words, close to 13 million euros less, a reduction of more than 30%.

The recipe is clear: you have to spend less. However, Barça did not have it easy as only three of their fourteen players had finished their contract (Sanli, Kuric and Tobey), in addition to the coach Sarunas Jasikevicius and with the savings derived from the departure of the four it is not possible to reduce, not even remotely. , those almost 13 million spending.

As if that were not enough, Barça has just closed the signing of Joel Parra after paying a million euros to break his contract with Joventut and is involved in two other major operations to bring the Hernangómez brothers to the Palau, Willy and Juancho, both in the NBA last season. The former has already accepted Barça's offer and will be a new Barça player if Real Madrid, which has the right of first refusal over the pivot, does not match it before this Wednesday at midnight. The power forward also seems very close to Barça and in both cases we are talking about contracts for an amount of around 3 million euros per year.

How is it possible, then, for Barça to reduce its budget by 13 million and at the same time be able to undertake these signings? The answer must be sought in the termination of Nikola Mirotic, who alone will release 11 million euros compared to the last budget. That money is not really a saving, since Barça and the Montenegrin player are still negotiating to reach an agreement and this, at the very least, will mean that the Barça club will pay 15 of the 22 million that Mirotic had guaranteed for the next two seasons. However, and that is the big difference with respect to what has happened up to now, this compensation will not count as an expense in the Barça basketball budget for 2023-24. It is clear that it will be an expense but it will go to another item in the club's accounting.

This was recognized by Joan Laporta himself in the interview he offered a few days ago to La Vanguardia when assessing the termination of Mirotic. "Now, with the improvement of relations with LaLiga, the indemnities of the sections will not have an impact on the financial fair play, and that is good news," said the president of Barça.

And that is the great concern of Barça at the moment, complying with the feasibility plan agreed with LaLiga to be able to register players in the first soccer team. Excluding Mirotic's compensation, whatever it may be, Barça already lowers its budget by 11 million (not its spending) with the departure of the Montenegrin. If we add to this the savings from Jasikevicius's goodbye (about 3.7 million), that of the three players who are leaving (about 5-6 million together) and the cancellation of compensation for early terminations a year ago Nick Calathes and Pierre Oriola (about 3 million between the two) a year, Barça lowers its budget spending from about 40 million to about 17. It will rise a little, to 18-19 million, due to the increasing contracts of some of the continuing players.

So there are still up to 27.2 million of the new budget, some 8-9 million to spend on the new coach Roger Grimau (cheap), Parra, the Hernangómez... and perhaps even some more reinforcement.

Good question. I think they are going to start building the new Palau after the Nou Camp Nou is done. No idea where the teams will be playing in interim.

Initially the new Palau was part of the Espai Barça project and the budget to rebuild it was around 450m. When the financing was finalized several months ago there were great doubts about whether we have the money for it. The club was wishy washy about it, Romeu said we will have money for it (using the contingency fund and the extra money etc.). Recently Laporta said we could build the new Palau for just around 200m, so they probably watered it down a lot.

Shots fired at Saras.

Kalinic: “I feel more comfortable with a calm coach like Grimau”

Alex Abrines, captain of the Barça basketball team, explained in an interview with 'Jijantes' the differences between his two previous coaches, Svetislav Pesic and Sarunas Jasikevicius, and his current coach, Roger Grimau. "There are coaches who say what they say goes without saying and others like Grimau who seek the player's opinion," Abrines explained. respect. He is very close, he asks us a lot. We feel liberated, we have the freedom to give our opinions and decide. Players like Laprovittola feel more comfortable."

Abrines added that "if you have a guy yelling from Monday to Saturday you get tired. In the end you stop doing things because it goes in one ear and comes out the other."
