Welcome to the world of being a socio

Thank you, I know you are a soci yourself. One thing that perplexed and worried me a bit was when I first became a soci last year my soci number was 14XXXX something, however this year it became 13XXXX something, up by almost 6000. I thought we lost around 6000 socis due to either death or people quitting the club?

I certainly don't want people to die but naturally people die, especially some really old socis; I just hope it wasn't due to people quitting the club for whatever reason (Messi leaving, disappointed at the club, can't stand Laporta etc.).

I guess with the covid pandemic money is a lot more scarce for some folks and that 180 euro was better spent elsewhere. It would be interesting to find out how many have joined this past few years

Yes, I have no idea if such information is available and if so where. Would the OAB have that information if we contact them?

By the way, I think you have been a soci for much longer, did you experience the same situation (bumping the soci number up) last year, between 2020 and 2021?

If the numbers are declining, makes sense they want to open up the process to a bit more other people.

They want to make the process at least easier from my understanding.

2022 Deloitte Money League report is out, we slid down by 3 spots and ended 4th on the list. The striking part to me is how low our commercial portion of the total revenue is, at €276.6m, compared to 2nd place overall Madrid (€321.6m) and 3rd place Bayern (€345.2m). The state-clubs fared much better than us in that regard too, unsurprisingly, with the 1st overall City (€308.2m) and 6th place overall PSG (€337.4m).

We can't compete with the EPL clubs when it comes to TV & broadcast portion of the revenue as their pie is much bigger than ours, the only place we can exploit and do better is the commercial portion and so far Laporta and his friends has had very little success in.

Read we were aiming on getting 15m for shirt sponsor. Seems high, but we'll see.

It is supposed to be around 12-13m with possible variables that might reach 15m, and also it is for both men's and women's first team's sleeves, plus the back of our training shirts. Sounds plausible if this is for all three.

The new UEFA FFP unveiled by Ceferin seeks to impose a cap on staff spending at 70% of the total revenue starting in 2025. Not sure if this includes only salaries or both salaries and money spent on incoming transfers. Failure to comply with it will see the club getting relegated from the CL to EL, for example.

I think it will be quite challenging for us to meet the 70% threshold, but in the long run this will be good for us in terms of forcing us to spend within our means. However, I think the biggest problem with this new FFP or whatever they are going to call it, is that state clubs can easily circumvent it by pumping a lot of money into the club via those fake and lucrative sponsorship contracts from their owner's country and therefore inflate the total revenue and thus increase the spending power.

Great episode of The Transfer Window podcast this week with Roger Mitchell on as a guest to discuss the financial situation around the European club game.

A must listen!
