Fifa report into alleged corruption clears Qatar to host 2022 World Cup

It's forced and unbalanced equality. Those that have the most responsibility for maintaining and securing the sport are being overruled by those that do not. Worst yet, corrupt people are exploiting both sides and this structure to keep power.

What is the alternative though? Assigning more weight to European and South American countries? Certain countries have more votes than certain other countries?

That is brewing more problems, in my opinion.

Its a big part of the problem, corruption is everywhere, but even more so in third world countries across Asia/Africa. Its not so difficult for Blatter to give them incentives to vote for him. And many of these countries have litle to no influence on football as we know it. Lets take Qatar for example, do you think that their vote should count as much as Brazil, France or Englands?

Why not? Who decides who gets more votes or whose vote counts more then? Based on the standing of the FIFA national teams? League co-efficients?

Again I bring up the example of the United Nations, the World Bank and the IMF: Do those of you complain about the one country one vote system want to have the narratives of world politics and economy be controlled by the top 10 or 20 countries based on GDP?

It is not equality. It makes no sense for a tiny island nation to have as much power as a much larger, more populous, state. But there is no easy way to fix the voting system. The current method is the simplest.

Votes could be allotted based on population, but I'd doubt that would change much.

The electoral college system in the US might be the only realistic alternative. But still, who is going to decide which country has how many votes?

Yes, one country one vote.

Just because you are from china doesn't mean my argument is wrong ! :mats:
kidding here of course :p

Seriously, could not disagree more, but such is life

you are right to point out that there is no grand alternative -of course.
But that certainly doesn't make the current system any closer to "equality" in my book

Do you think there's any chance of a boycott of the next world cup?

Highly unlikely. Would need an entire federation moving together. Maybe Platini has the power and UEFA members are angry enough, but then Spain and Russia for instance who supported Blatter might bring even more problems.

Just too much of hassle basically.

If maybe Blatter punishes CONMEBOL with sanctions and takes away a WC spot or something, then perhaps they could boycott.

Every 10,000 people equals 1 vote?

Divide the world's countries into FIFA regions based on population. Each region having a representative who votes?

It'd be hellishly complicated to implement.

I think we could say though that the more people there are to vote, the harder it would be to bribe them all.

If Blatter does anything like that then CONMEBOL and UEFA together can do quite a lot.

That wouldn't be fair either, would it? That means countries like China, India, Bangladesh etc. will have more votes than Germany, the Netherlands etc. because they have more people?

Basing the number of votes on population would not work. The only system that might satisfy those folks who think Africa and Asia have way too much power is arbitrarily assign the top 10 or 20 countries based on FIFA national team ranking more votes, this is the only way you will give more voting power to European and South American countries.

But this would also be unfair if you have a great league but a national team that underachieves.
