USA has the largest foreign fan base in Brazil for the World Cup
RIO DE JANEIRO — The conventional wisdom that Americans don’t like soccer can officially be thrown out the window.
According to FIFA, the United States has the second-largest fan contingent in Brazil next to, well, the Brazilians.
And that’s just counting tickets.
U.S. fans bought 198,208 tickets for World Cup matches, but in Rio, many more flocked to the official fan fest on Copacabana Beach as well as several bars in the same area and Ipanema Beach.
Chants of “USA! USA!” can be heard throughout the streets at any given time and during the game, the infamous “I Believe” chant was as prevalent as any chant heard during any game.
And the 2-1 win against Ghana didn’t hurt the support and trying to find a seat or a spot to stand at fan fest or a local bar might be difficult to come by during the crucial game against Portugal on Sunday.

The US is also full of people who only care about the sport during the WC as a platform for patriotism. The amount of people who actually follow club football is still a minority, though that doesn't matter in this argument since it's all about WC support. Really hope we get to host another tournament.

France has 66 million and bought 35k, Germany has 80 million and bought 59k... the US number is very impressive when you consider how many sports they follow.

Honestly, I think Russia's 2018 choice was at least just as corrupted as Qatar 2022, you can expect that from them, but at the same time, Russia has a valid bid that you can hope can be good if they don't fuck up like the Winter Olympics which seems unlikely so far cause they're on target for 2017 Conf and 2018 WC ( they already demolished the Luzhniki stands to rebuild them in football style ).
Still, a World Cup in Spain was fucked up by the fact they added Portugal, I think Spain was the last country that needed a mini-co host to fill the stadium list, not to mention FIFA said after 2002 they would not let 2 countries host.
Overall, I still think a country that would benefit from hosting by building and heavily renovating 10-12 stadiums is still better, Russia had only communist toilet seats with stands making a football match impossible to watch, including Luzhniki, now they would enjoy one of the best stadium line-ups in the world, beating almost all Brazil stadiums or newly built english stadiums like Emirates, for example, at the proximity of the stands face to the pitch.

The 2022 World Cup will not be held in Qatar because of the scorching temperatures in the Middle East country, FIFA Executive Committee member Theo Zwanziger said on Monday.
"I personally think that in the end the 2022 World Cup will not take place in Qatar," the German told Sport Bild on Monday.
"Medics say that they cannot accept responsibility with a World Cup taking place under these conditions," the former German football (DFB) chief, who is now a member of the world football's governing body FIFA that awarded the tournament to Qatar in 2010.
Although Qatar has insisted that a summer World Cup is viable thanks to cooling technologies it is developing for stadiums, training areas and fan zones, there is still widespread concern over the health of the players and visiting supporters.
"They may be able to cool the stadiums but a World Cup does not take place only there," Zwanziger said.
"Fans from around the world will be coming and travelling in this heat and the first life-threatening case will trigger an investigation by a state prosecutor.
"That is not something that FIFA Exco members want to answer for."
FIFA are looking to shift the tournament to a European winter date to avoid the scorching summer where temperatures routinely rise over 40 Celsius.
However, talk of a potential change away from the usual June-July dates has resulted in plenty of opposition from domestic leagues around the world, worried the schedule switch would severely disrupt them.
Both FIFA and Qatar World Cup organisers have also been fending off questions of corruption ever since they were awarded the tournament back in 2010, while Qatar has also been criticised for the conditions provided for migrant workers' in the tiny but wealthy Gulf state.

I said this months ago, that Qatar will NOT host the tournament due to political reasons. A couple years back the middle east was thought to have taken a path into reform and modernity but the exact opposite has happened. The country that should really host the world cup now is the USA and to sweeten the deal maybe USA/CANADA.

The record for the highest attendance and most profitable world cup in history is still held by USA94. Can't think of a better candidate than north america IMO. Without any doubt the build up to the world cup alone will push the MLS forward.

That's one member who don't have any say whatsover saying that "he thinks" Qatar will be stripped off it.

And if they are stripped off it then I would like to see Australia arranging it, would have been nice if they have things under control and have the capability to arrange it. While USA have everything in order already and all that, they got it in 94, would like to see it somewhere else.
USA got 2nd in the bid though if im not wrong so it will probably be handed over to them if Qatar loses it.
