Looking at how he responded to the difficult situations we found ourselves in recent games, he has been perfect. Tactically astute for sure, hes shown that he can adapt and provided answers when needed. So far he's been great. Regarding putting Song at CB, as others have mentioned, he really had no options, plus Song wasn't the main culprit on either goal.

Yep.

Just replace Tom with Tito there.

What were Tito's options there with Piqué injured in the 1st half?...And the goals were not a result of Song

Bartra. Who is a natural defender. Song played there a couple of times the last time like ... I don't know. 2 years ago? So the experience excuse shouldn't count. He isn't an experienced centre back. He is a positionally suspect CM.

While Song wasn't the main culprit for the goals, he has to take blame for both. For the first one he should do a lot better than to get nutmegged like that by a simple cross. I blame him more than Alves. Alves didn't expect the ball to go through Song's legs like that. He got surprised in a split-second. Blame goes to Mascherano as well. Emaneke left him behind far too easily.

For the second goal he's caught in no man's land. Look at his position when the counterattack starts.

You don't have to commit an obvious blunder like Mascherano in the Supercopa to be at fault for a goal. Bad positioning / closing down like that also counts as "shit defending". Song actually gets beaten twice in that scene as well. First he's far too high up the pitch and let's the striker run in-behind him. Second he trails back but loses the 1 on 1 again, letting the number 9 cut in with ease and play the pass which led to the goal. Adriano looked like the dick at the end but the whole move started with Song's failures. Not that I blame him. He's no centreback.

that was just too easy how ari beat alex song there. the first one i mean where he left acres of space behind him. what the hell was he thinking. the second one, how 1v1 got beaten, it was because of the stupid foul he made earlier to get himself a yellow card. after that he was so scared of making any challenges and kept to big distance with attackers. seriously he needs some pep talk how to position and defend. i had my hopes on him being a successful defender but he just crushed them into million pieces.
now lets see what the coaching staff decides to do next after puyol and pique missing. do they play bartra or song.

Regarding Song being a suspect CM (which he certainly was at Arsenal from the games I watched) but its really mind boggling how you're reaching such staggering conclusions after just 1 game. By your logic, after his debut for us you would have had to say the opposite, since he was excellent in that match. So let's just wait a little bit more before brushing him aside as a suspect everything.

Well that happened when he was playing at Center Back, so lets give him a break for now. I mean that was just a freak nutmeg, nothing else. Probably won't hapen 99 out of 100 times.

Preposterous. You blame him more than Alves when actually the exact same thing that happened to Song happened to Alves, simply caught on the wrong foot.

Again, put this one down to him not being a CB. The position in the pic above is where he almost always is on the pitch, force of habit. I tend to get angry when Mash finds himself in those positions.

...Lets us all just relax for now and judge him after seeing him a couple more times, hopefully not at CB ;)

tito makes some things better than pep and some others not.until now is difficult to judge where things going.there are certainly differences with peps aproach to some games and sometimes it has result .the deffenting operetion is the biggest issue right now and the problem is not the persons but the whole teams deffence, thats sure.

But, the problem is that Tito in has last press conference said that "we didn't sign Song for the position of defensive midfielder alone, but also for the position of centre back". So the excuse I hear from many on this forum that "it's OK, I don't blame him. he is not a cb" isn't worth anything - because obviusly Tito intends to play him there so he better step up. If Songs keeps making these simple mistakes and we lose both Liga and CL I don't think many will say "nah, it's cool - Song was no CB to begin with".

Tito about Real Madrid: "Tomorrow I'm going to go eat paella and then to the movies. I imagine someone will probably message me the result."
