Francesc "Tito" Vilanova

So, I just read this on another forum:

I'm very sad to share this with you guys, and I really really hope it's false, but I have received the same info from many sources already to ignore it: It seems the treatment Tito received in NY didn't work. His cancer has spread and he won't be able to beat the illness.

The poster appears to be a club member, lives in Barcelona etc...

i cant find anything on the internet, maybe someone of you guys/ladies happen to know anything about this?

It would be devastating if it's true, but for some reason, I'm not inclined to believe it. Tito came out in front of the press and said that the latest test results in New York were great and that everything was going as planned. If I'm not mistaken, other club executives have mentioned that they count on Tito for next season, so considering all this I can't really believe that quote you posted. I don't think that both Tito and the club would openly make statements that are the exact opposite of the truth. It would be irresponsible and inconsiderate of them to do so. They'd probably try to keep it a secret somehow until the time is right, but for example, I don't think Tito would say that his treatment is going great and that the test results were good.

False rumors circle the web all the time. Tito seems fine, and has said so multiple times. I doubt it's true.

Some people just have no dignity. Remember those recent rumors about the death of Pirlo's 10-year-old son? Disgusting.

Yeah, I'm guessing this is bullshit just like that was.

Some people...

Yeah, and Tito said that he'll continue next season. I can actually see him changing his mind and resigning (I know I would, in his shoes), but if he said that he'll continue next season, I'm pretty sure that rumor has no truth to it whatsoever.

Yeah, I also find this rumour hard to believe, but it still crosses my mind - what if it actually is true?
But, yeah, I think its BS. Nothing on the internet + that Tito said that everything is going as planned.

But on a second thought... when was the last time Tito (or another board member) said everything was going as planned? Because if it was several days ago, they mightve detected it afterwards. Things can change pretty fast...

I wish for him and his family and for us who support him that this is false.

Honnestly, he looks better day by days, smiled a lot during the training sessions... I mean he didn't look sad.
Anyway, I don't think that this rumour is true.

I think he was asked at a press conference after he got back from New York (last week? two weeks ago?) about his health, and he said it was going well.

That was before the game vs atletico.

If it was 4-5 days/a week ago or so, it may be possible that they have detected a relapse after the conference but are keeping it quiet for now...

Oh well, can only hope for the best...

My guess would be that it's today's rumor about his next trip to NY for a follow-up being in June having passed a couple hands too many.

How, if he hasn't done another check-up after that one? The conference was on friday, 4 days ago.

I find it unlikely to be true...Not because cancer can't re-appear like that but because the club has been pretty damn good at keeping a tight lid on personal health issues related to it's staff & players...No one had a clue what was going on initially with Tito or Abidal nevermind the reoccurrences until they found it appropriate to divulge it...So if it were true, I find it hard to believe it leaked, even to club members which is in no way a testament to the rumour being true in the first place - I mean, why would a club member be privy to such information anyway?

It's in poor taste and regrettably there are plenty of tools out there willingly propagating terrible lies

It seems like everybody forgot what mistakes he did against bayern in the semi finale and everything is okay now since he won La Liga thanks to messi

Madrid beating us in Clasicos (Supecopa, Copa exit) or poor form in CL (1 win in last 8 matches) ending with a embarrassment vs. Bayern is hard to forget. As is Barca's negative defensive record.
We had injured players but that's why you have a big squad. It's another problem when you don't use players like Montoya, Thiago, even Bartra enough to give others a rest. Whose mistake it was exactly that practically everyone looked fatigued vs. Bayern?
And now the management announces that we should even have a smaller squad?

And I wouldn't mind really, if they were decent enough to acknowledge mistakes. Tito went thorough a lot and deserves our support.
But we keep on hearing how unlucky we were, how results were unfair or ref mistakes. Or latest, how the players give themselves a 9/10 for this season. Talk about sweeping it all under carpet.
Someone's clearly lost the plot.
