A barca DM should have Vision(he has), Passing(he has), Mobility(he has), Strenght(he has), Getting the ball from defence to attack(he has), Position himself properly(he has), Speed( pretty fast for a Dm), quick one two with teammates(he has), high workrate(he has). he lacks a bit of dribbling and long balls ala Alonso. I cant fathom that people dont rate him that high. Every other club in the world will line up to pick him up for their midfield.
His passing and vision of passing is nowhere near what
should be expected from a Barcelona player.
It's not that great.
His positioning when Barcelona has the ball is also poor.
He only moves to the ball. All his life he is moving to the ball that's why his positioning is not that great.
When he has the ball when moving to the ball he touches it several times or goes for a dribble. After all these actions nothing follows up in passing. He doesn't know what to do with the ball and hesitates.
A great midfield player buys times for his teammates either by speeding up the play to make sure his teammates have more time on the ball or by opening up the play to the other side. I'm a huge Barcelona fan but Frenkie de Jong hasn't got even 10% of the vision of Tony Kroos.
The same Kroos who got humiliated by a Barca midfield with Iniesta, Busquets and Raketic.
A Barcelona midfield players needs passing skills to give a ball in between the lines in the feet of the attackers in the final third.
When was the last time you saw de Jong with a great pass?
Sometimes players play bad and try to pass but it's not accurate because they are out of shape. But you still see the idea and the timing of the ball.
These things we don't see with de Jong.
He is a player with great control, great rotation with the ball, great dribble, great pressure with interception when Barca doesn't have the ball.
But all these things mean nothing if you can't do what's the most important thing for midfield player the passing.
One of his jobs is to deliver the ball in the final 3rd in the feet of the most Dangerous attacker and buy him time on the ball. That's what a great midfield player does.
