So as I thought. Just a rumor for now. I can't imagine De Jong wasting his best years at PSG. It would be a shame for him.
Anyway I have no idea if people here watch De Jong week in and week out (I certainly cannot claim that I do) but are people of the opinion that he is/could be a long-term replacement of Busquets? As I wrote earlier, this is not my impression at all. As I see it, he would be a long-term replacement for Rakitic. Now the question is, would the pathetic board be willing to sell Rakitic to the highest bidder next summer as they most likely should have done this past summer if the PSG rumors were genuine? I am not so sure.
We already have Arthur as well. Then there is Puig and Aleñá as well.
In an ideal world the board would part company with Rakitic and Busquets next year (at least the former) but it is easier said than done.
De Jong or no De Jong, it's painfully obvious that we need to look for long-term replacements for not only Rakitic but Busquets as well. Unless the club sees Arthur as the longterm replacement of Busquets. I would not be too surprised let alone "angry" if that was the case.
This season the midfield is overbooked once again. Players like Rafinha, D. Suárez, Vidal (I will give him 1 more season at the most) have no business at the club. Rakitic, while overall a good servant for the club, is once again being misused and is being played constantly and he has his best days behind him as well. Busquets is another rather big worry. His level and fitness is declining at a worrying rate. Either he needs a new challenge, a manager that can inspire him to give his last 2-3 seasons at the highest level (at lest 2 seasons) or we will have to look for replacements or tell him that he cannot expect to be a undisputed starter any longer.
I have been very critical of this board for years but one must give credit where credit is due. They have improved their recruitment strategy (and amazingly they seem to have learned, at last, how to sell players, at least some of them) and that gives me some hope in terms of our chances to actually buy not only De Jong next season but de Ligt as well who I see as the bigger talent rather than De Jong and more of a generational talent. A rather fitting long-term replacement for Piqué as well if he continues his development as everything points to.
